Prayers for Justin
March 7,2001

Thanks to all who have remembered us in prayer, sent encouragement, or passed on our prayer requests... please continue to remember Justin in prayer- he still has a long road ahead.

I wanted to send out an update. Justin underwent surgery Monday morning. We were in a private waiting room filled with family & friends- receiving updates throughout the 6 hour proceedure. Right now he is in recovery & doing very well. The surgeon seemed surprised by how little blood & swelling there was after the surgery- a very good sign! His saturation levels are good & his heart muscle is strong. He had no trouble recovering from the heart & lung machine they used- his little heart started beating on its own again- almost before they were ready! Everything seems to be going very well...

Before surgery, they had his hands in booties to keep him from scratching his face or messing with the wires or tubes. They looked like little boxing gloves, & every once in awhile he'd raise one in the air- just like a triumphant little Rocky... I've been calling him my little prize fighter & he seems determined to prove it!

We're still waiting through the 48 hour critical period- hoping things continue to go well. They will probably close him up between tomorrow and Friday. We're hoping he'll be off the ventilator soon & they will probably start giving him small amounts of milk again with a feeding tube in about 5 days. We're hoping that he'll be able to come home in about 2-3 weeks!

I am so thankful... we are so blessed. The hospital here is excellent. His surgeon comes highly recommended from what we've heard. People have been coming out of the woodwork to shower us with support. God has given us so much to be hopeful for. We've had so many "coincidences" that seem signs to me that things will go well for my sweet baby... I'll continue to send out updates as things progress... for now, please know that we are so grateful for all the prayers & well wishes. I'll send a photo out as soon as I get my scanner fixed or find another one to borrow! Please continue to keep him in your prayers as there is still a long way to go...
