The name “Josie’s Lynx” comes from an imagined Josie and the Pussycats scenario in which the band contributes the proceeds of several benefit concerts to wildlife preservation centers. Dr. Wilder, one of the zoologists working on the preservation project is smitten with Josie. Although Val always points out that it was Melody’s idea originally to play the benefit concerts, a new species of lynx discovered by Dr. Wilder is named for Josie. They are a particularly gentle species, and are described as
“pussycat-like” for their curiosity and playfulness.
