~*~Spells~*~

Spells are a big misconception among the common folk. They hear the word "spell" and the words "Bubble, Bubble, Toil and Trouble!" come to mind. A spell is actually a way of making your energy come to the surface to do your bidding. Spells can be simple or complex, powerful or weak. It all depends on the person casting them. The most effective spells are the ones you write yourself. Writing your own spells puts part of you in it. Not to mention, if you write it then you'll probably be able to memorize it a bit easier. It's really very simple to create and cast your own spells. Below you will find ways to write your own spell, concecrate your tools and some simple spells for beginners and novices. Enjoy and Blessed Be!

Writing Your Own Spells

One would think writing something that will release your life energy into the atmosphere would be hard. That's where they would be wrong. Most people don't realize that's it's really quite simple to write your own spell for your own purposes. Many who are new to Witchcraft want spells to use and ask people to write them spells. It should be emphasized that the most potent spell is the one that is created by the witch themselves. But, you ask, how do you do that? Spell crafting *is* an art, and like all arts the only way to learn and sharpen your skill is by trial and error. Here is a simple guide line for crafting effective spells.

(Although I will be using the word "spell" throughout this page, rituals are created the same way only sometimes a bit more involved.)

The first thing to do is ask yourself if a spell is actually necessary. Not everything in life requires magick, and it's not something that should be abused or used frivolously. It's best to try and deal with a situation as best you can before casting a spell.

Keep in mind that spells don't work on their own. It's your personal power that makes them effective during and after the spell. Sitting around expecting a spell to work makes it a futile effort. If you perform a spell, you must also take action to make it effective. If you cast a spell to attract love into your life (cannot be a specific person!) and sit around hoping they knock at your door, don't hold your breath. It's just like doing a spell to protect your home and leaving all the doors and windows unlocked. It defeats the purpose of the spell! Now that I've made that clear...on to the spell creating...

Determine Its Purpose- What exactly is it for? Think about this carefully and be very specific. "I need a boyfriend" or "I need protection" is not a clear purpose. What do you need this spell for? Ask yourself this: "What do I need protection from?", "Love in what area of my life", etc... Each need is different therefore each spell should be different.

Once you have clearly determined the purpose it's time to start putting the spell together. The first step is to decide what materials you need. You will find references to candle colours, moon phases, herbs, and elements throughout the Net and this site to help you decide what is right for the spell. How many materials you use is entirely up to you. An effective spell can consist of no tools whatsoever. Do whatever feels right to you.

Now that you've decided what you're going to use and what you're using it for, you can begin to actually write the spell. A rough draft is usually necessary and helps bring clarity to the mind. Seeing it on paper gives you the choices of moving and editing words and phrases. After writing it, make sure to re-read and check to make sure that the words flow and make sense. Now read on...

During any spell or ritual, chanting is used to raise power. Compose an appropriate chant, preferably one that rhymes.

Now it's time to put the finishing touches on your spell. Read it through carefully and make any changes or additions. Be sure to include any actions (burning a piece of paper), moon phase, and preparations, such as a purification ritual, you may wish to do before the ritual. Remember that this will be going into your Book Of Shadows, so it's important to keep a record of when it was performed and so on.

(Remember when writing your spells, the Law Of Three still applies...Be Wise!)

Once you make the decision to follow this path, you'll need some tools to practice magick. You'll need the following things:
