Messages from God

Back in 1998 you may recall driving down the road and looking up at the usual billboards.  Then one day you see one entirely in black with white lettering and they are signed by God.  Here’s a little bit of information concerning them.  The Smith Agency of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, handled an assignment from a client by placing of a variety of billboards bearing non-denominational religious messages around the U.S. All the billboards presented short, simple inspirational notices (some with a bit of wry humor) in large white text on black backgrounds and were signed as if they came from God. Seventeen different messages were used in the campaign.  Here are just a few of them:

1.      "Let's Meet At My House Sunday Before the Game" — God

2.      "What Part of 'Thou Shalt Not . . .' Didn't You Understand?" — God

3.      "We Need To Talk" — God

4.      "Keep Using My Name in Vain And I'll Make Rush Hour Longer" — God

5.      "Loved The Wedding, Invite Me To The Marriage" — God

6.      "That 'Love Thy Neighbor' Thing, I Meant It." — God

7.      "Big Bang Theory, You've Got To Be Kidding." — God

8.      "My Way Is The Highway." — God

9.      "You Think It's Hot Here?" — God

10.  "Have You Read My #1 Best Seller? There Will Be A Test." — God

I’ve read many stories in which these billboards gave much encouragement to people.  And I’ve also read where some were either offended or simply rolled their eyes in regards to it.  And of course, from the examples above, they were not very deep in their meaning.

Some people today, though, are actually waiting to receive a message from God before they do anything with their lives.  Some say, “If God spoke to me personally, then I know what I would need to do.”  Then again if God really were to come down and speak to us personally, we’d pass it off as a hallucination.

As it happens, God does speak to us.  In the Bible, from cover to cover, God’s speaks to us every time we open the book and read the scriptures.  This is how our faith is developed (Rom. 10: 17; 2 Cor. 5: 7).  Again people will say, “That’s not enough.  If he actually spoke to me today…” Well, that won’t happen and yet people continue to wait.  Jesus said in Matt. 12: 39, “…An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given it but the sign of Jonah the prophet”

The longer one waits for a sign, the less chance one has of doing the right thing.  Make the change now.  If you want to become a Christian, follow the steps on the back of this article.
