"Attention all Saints of God, man your battle stations!
Sound the alarm loud and long to all men of every nation!
We’re kicking down the gates of hell, not stopping ‘till they’re level.
For the sentence of destruction’s on the forehead of the devil…"
--Carman "Revival in the Land"
Civil War, World War, Revolutions each battle is fought with fervor until an outcome is determined. Each war lasts days to years. In the life of a Christian we go to war every hour of every day of our life. Most of the time the victories are small and few but we carry on to the ultimate victory. "For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. (For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the casting down of strongholds)" 2 Cor. 10: 3-4. When we become Christians, it’s a non-stop battle against Satan and his temptations, which constantly attack us. We need to be prepared always and the best way is to arm yourselves against the enemy. In Eph. 6: 13-18, the whole armor of God is described: girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness (vs.14), shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace (vs.15), shield of faith (vs16), the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God (vs.17), with all prayer and supplication praying at all seasons in the Spirit (vs.18). We need to wear these items daily if we are to triumph over the enemy. Without the armor of God, we are just naked individuals and easy prey. Peter wrote in 1PET 5:8, "Be sober, be watchful: your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour."
Paul wrote, "What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?"(Rom. 8:31). In fact in the book of Isaiah, the prophet describes a similar battle dress that God Himself puts on, "15.Yea, truth is lacking; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey. And Jehovah saw it, and it displeased him that there was no justice. 16. And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his own arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it upheld him. 17. And he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a mantle. 18. According to their deeds, accordingly he will repay, wrath to his adversaries, recompense to his enemies; to the islands he will repay recompense. 19. So shall they fear the name of Jehovah from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun; for he will come as a rushing stream, which the breath of Jehovah driveth." (Isa. 59:15-19).
In addition to fighting along side of us, God also serves as a refuge from the attacks (read Psalm 91). What more can you ask for? The Bible gives you instruction for your own armor, tells that God wears armor and also serves as a refuge. Together no one can defeat you. One more thing though, in your victories against evil do not look for payback. Leave that to God as well, "Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord." (Rom. 12:19)
War in the spirit is a long drawn out process but there will be victory for those who have God on their side.
