Stating life out in game

As you load your character and step into the realm of Albion you are embarking on a great journey into a great gaming I hope. The first 5 levels of the game will get you into the gist of playing and a time where your mistakes will not affect you too greatly. So start hunting. Start fighting monsters and gain experience (exp). When you rise to level 2 you will have specialization points to spend. These points are used to train in a skill and gain spells, style and become greater in that skill line. For the first 5 levels it is best to save the points up and spend them when you become a Paladin.

Becoming a Paladin

So you are a level 5 fighter and want to become a Paladin. Britons and Highlanders should head to Camelot to become a Paladin and Avalonians should look for the Paladin trainer (Lord Adribard) in Adribard’s Retreat. The Paladin Trainers in Camelot are in the church of Albion. It is a big church and as you wander around you will find it. So now right click on the trainer and he or she will ask you if you want to join. Congratulations you are a Paladin, Protector of the faith! Your trainer will now train you in Paladins skills. These skills are discussed in the next sections.

Specialization and Skills

The Paladin is a chanting warrior. The Paladin gains skills at certain levels. Below is the table of when they gain the skills.

As you can see in the table Paladins gain lots of skill and I will explain them all below.

Staff – Basic Stave use. No use to a Paladin who can use other weapons and styles with them

Cloth, Leather, Studded, Chain and Plate Armour – Plate is the best armour in the game giving you an absorb of 34%. Absorb on armour means how much damage the armour will absorb and not you. Cloth, Leather and Studded all come at level 1 straight away and can wear them. Studded is the best till level 10 when you get chain and finally plate at level 20. Always wear plate rather than anything else.

Slash – The weapon specialization for swords, longswords etc. When you train in it you will gain slash styles. Styles are a move you will perform when you have this type of weapon in your hand. A style will give you bonus damage and other bonuses. Refer to the weapon style chart further on. Slash damage is based on strength.

Crush – The ability to use maces and blunt weapons. When trained in you gain styles. Crush damage is based on strength.

Thrust – The ability to use dagger and small knives. When trained in you gain styles. Thrust damage is based on 50% Strength and 50% dex (roughly)

2-Handed – At the loss of a shield you can wield a strong 2 handed weapon. When trained in you gain styles. Yu can get Slash, Crush and Thrust 2-handed weapons. 2-Handed depends on your choice of 2-handed weapon choice.

Shields – Protects the fighter from damage by blocking. When you train in shield you gain shield styles and an increased chance to block an attack.

Chants – The Paladin’s Chants increase the Paladin’s and groups fighting ability and other bonuses. Look at the chants section later on. When trained in you gain new chants.

Protect – When in a group fighting mobs you can protect a group member. Protect means that if those mobs will aggro the protected person you have a better chance to stop him doing so as you are protecting the player.

Guard - This is gained after you have trained a few in shields. Guard is one of the most useful abilities in the game for defense. It can only be used when you have a shield equipped and works like a hit absorber. The player puts guard onto somebody and throughout the fight the player will jump in and block a hit from a mob for the person the mob attacked. The higher your skill in shields the higher chance you will block a hit. This is very useful for guarding healers and casters.

Intercept - Like guard it works on a 30 second timer. You select intercept and use it another player and in those 30 seconds you can intercept an incoming attack.

Parry - You parry an attack like you would block an attack with your shield. The higher your parry skill the more often you will parry. One spec point in parry is roughly .5% chance of parrying.
