Dream Whip Frosting

1-1/2 cups cold milk
1 envelope dream whip
1 pkg (4 serving) pudding mix-chocolate
(or whatever flavor compliments your cake)

Pour milk in deep, narrow bowl. Add topping mix.
Beat low until blended.
Increase speed til mixture forms soft peaks. 4-6 minutes.
Keep cake refrigerated once it's frosted!

Decorators' Frosting

Mix 2 cups powdered sugar and 2 to 3 tbsps water
~just enough to make a frosting that can be used
easily in a decorators' tube or envelope cone
and yet hold it's shape.

This frosting is great for any decorating need~!
If you want colored frosting, I suggest adding that
before adding all the water.

The following '1948' recipes are written as they are found in the book.
I thought it quaint to see how they wrote/spelled at that time. Enjoy!

1948 Frosting

1/2 C corn sirup or honey 1/2 C sugar
2 egg whites
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Cook the sirup and sugar together until the mixture spins a thread.
Stir constantly. Beat the egg whites until frothy
Add the salt and beat until stiff. Pour sirup
slowly over the egg whites. Beat until the frosting
stands in peaks. Add vanilla extract. Beat it
until stiff enough to spread.

1948 Chocolate Frosting

Use the above recipe. After the frosting has been beaten stiff, add 3 squares of chocolate,
melted and blend thoroughly.

1948 Seven-Minute Frosting

2 egg whites
1-1/2 C sugar
5 TB cold water
1-1/2 tsp light corn sirup
1 tsp vanilla

Put the egg whites (unbeaten), sugar, water, and corn sirup in the upper part of the double
broiler. Place it over rapidly boiling water, beat constantly with a rotary egg beater, and
cook 7 minutes or until the frosting will stand in peaks. Remove from the fire, add vanilla
and beat until thick enough to spread.
Variations
Chocolate- Fold 3 squares of melted chocolate into the frosting after it is removed from the
fire. Do not beat as for plain frosting.

Cocoanut- Add 1/2 can or 1 cp of fresh cocoanut to the above. Spread on the cake.
Sprinkle cocoanut over the top of the cake.

1948 Creamy Peanut Butter Frosting

2 TB peanut butter
1-1/3 C sweetened condensed milk
1/8 tsp salt

Measure the peanut butter and condensed milk into the top part of a double boiler. Cook over boiling
water until the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes, stirring the while. Add the salt, cool,
and spread on a cold cake. It is nice on spice cake.

1948 Cream Filling

1/4 C sugar
1 TB flour
1/8 tsp salt
1 egg
1 C milk
1/2 tsp vanilla

Combine the dry ingredients. Add the egg, slightly beaten, and mix well. Add the milk
Cook in a double boiler for about 15 minutes, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens.
Cool and add the vanilla.
