Malik first appeared in Manga Volume 18 at the beginning of the Battle City saga. He is the brother of Isis and the leader of the Ghouls. The Ghouls are a group of people who huntfor rare cards which they can duplicate for their own use. Malik is searching for the 'King's Hand" a set of five cards which concentrate around The God of the Oberisk.

Malik has in his possesion a Millenium Item as well, the Millenium Rod which allows him to control people's mind. With this item he took control of Jounouchi and Anzu, to trap Yugi into a duel against Jounouchi. Yugi and Jounouchi proved the power of their friendship and broke free of Malik's trap.

Not much is know about Malik but it is believed he wants revenge on Yugi for killing his father, he is also Isis's brother.
