I had been waiting for this moment for so long. My admission paid, I walked through an area with painted walls blocking off the outside world. The ramp went up, turned, and climbed again to emerge onto a field.

This mysterious combination of aged stones seemed to rise from the ground. My eyes took everything in, the green flat fields, people circled around this relic. As I continued on to the stone setting, I felt a powerful draw to it.

For me so much mystery, history, and questions unanswered drew me even closer. I was amazed to see these massive stones placed thousands of years ago by an ancient people, standing still, marking the rise and fall of two masters of the sky...the sun and moon.

Notes:

The outer circle is composed of Sarsen stones with lintels made out of sandstone from Marlborough Downs, which is 20 miles away.

Smaller inner stones are called Bluestones. These stones are given their name because of the hint of blue to them. These stones are from the Preseli Mountains in South-west Wales, 240 miles away.
