Rock of Cashel

Our tour of Ireland led us by an outcropping of rock called, The Rock of Cashel (Cash eel).

There are many stories to how this rock came to rest here in an otherwise featureless area of land.

My favorite:

St. Patrick was preaching on the matters of life. Satan flew over him and was enraged to find him preaching. In Satan's anger he flew to the nearest mountain ranges and took at bite from them.  He flew low over St. Patrick and dropped the stone in an attempt to crush him. St. Patrick was uninjured and the rock stood as just another battle won against evil. In order to commemorate the legend people over the ages built a castle upon the rock. The rock and castle stand to this day, a testament to the power of good over evil.
