WENT to see Jumpers last night; it's been put to me before that, as a playwright, Stoppard isn't all that, really, he's just a rather clever wordsmith. Unfortunately, Jumpers is a good example - lots of the philosophy thrown around in it is, obviously, not his (and, of course, when talking about Aristotle, the name comes up) - yes, there are some clever lines, yes, combining acrobatics, philosophy and a nightclub sounds like an interesting concoction -it is- but whether it's particularly original. Hmm. Still, the actual prodcuction of it was excellent, and I did enjoy it. Just glad I paid £17 and not £40 for a ticket...

Added later: Right people, panic time. I'm just agreed to do a debate on Monday about the Hutton Inquiry. I have until Monday to learn everything. Feck.

IT suddenly occurs that I really, really need a break from all this.

I've been feeling rather uninspired as to what to write on here over the last few weeks, and it's hit me over the last couple of days that one of the reasons for this is that I haven't stopped properly and stood back since October. Sure, I've taken the odd couple of days to breathe here and there, and yes, before October, I had a year off, but life has become an incessant battle to fling back translated text and written essays on time. I'm not complaining, mind, as I thrive on being busy, and the majority of the work has an element of stimulation in it, but more and more recently I've felt like packing my bags and jumping on plane to somewhere sunny. Roll on reading week.

ERM, excuse me. George Bush is now saying that he 'wants to know the facts' about Iraq's (lack of) weapons of mass destruction. Allow me to quote:

'Iraq had developed unmanned drones capable of spraying biological or chemical weapons which could be launched at sea against the US.'

Never mind that this particular claim, for example, had actually been dealt with in a report published six months before Bush said this. The report had said that the planes were in fact intended for reconnaissance. Now, if the Bush regime is prepare to lie about what it does know about, what on earth would it claim, we wonder, about areas like WMD which it clearly knew fuck all about (or, worse, did know and lied)...? Bush clearly isn't just an idiot - he's a criminal idiot.
