Keylyn awoke the day after the Hatching, unable to remember why she was here, in a Weyr. She looked around, from her bed in the barracks, and saw the beautiful Light blue on the couch beside her. Then it all came back, all the events of the previos day, and her wondrous, perfect Impression. She rose, trying not to disturb the still-sleeping hatchlings around her, and knelt on the floor by her hatchling's side. Sekayth?
What, Ke? the little blue asked, stretching.
It's ok, Sekayth. I was just checking. You can go back to sleep.
Who's asleep? I was just waiting for you to wake up. He tried look innocent, and Keylyn fought to keep from laughing at her bondmate's comical expression. If you say so. C'mon, Sey, I bet you're hungry.
Hungry is an understatement. He rolled off the couch, yawning slightly, and raced for the door to the Weyrbowl. Hurry up, Ke! Please?
Keylyn followed, jogging to keep up with her blue. Sorry, dear heart. I was just thinking what big words you know for a hatchling.
Sekayth sounded smug. How could I not when you're a Harper, Ke? And - the Weyrlingmaster did say that Light hatchlings are more intelligent than normal colors. He sent a grin into her mind. Keylyn, what's a big word for 'starving'?
She laughed. I get the point, Sekayth.

It was well past noon when before Keylyn was finally able to grab a mug of klah and some redfruit. Sekayth had proved to have an insatiable appetite, but when she told J'kosh, who was watching the new bondmates, he smiled. "Sekayth will be eating like this for almost half a Turn, Keylyn. He'll be fine, don't worry."
Do you not like feeding me? Sekayth looked up from where he was resting, sprawled on the warm sand.
Of course I do. You just eat a lot.
        You barely eat anything!
Keylyn laughed. Compared to you! She rose, and, with Ziiri on her shoulder, walked over to the light blue. I've finished, now. Do you want me to oil you?
Sekayth's sigh was pure relief. That would be wonderful.

Keylyn quickly realized the value of her flit's assistance. Although Sekayth was not large compared to the huge browns and bronzes, he still had a considerable amount of hide. Keylyn's arms ached by the time she had finished, but she had never felt more peaceful, more. . . complete. Tired but happy, she lay down next to her sleeping hatchling. She laid her head on his side, and fell asleep wondering at the miracle of Impression.

And Ziiri soared, triumphant, above the girl and her Light blue hatchling.
