To read the main verses concerning the antichrist, please scroll to the bottom.

Quotes from the Bible about the "antichrist" or "Beast" (as he's commonly referred to) begin in the book of Daniel. They are linked together here, but if you are familiar with Bible prophecy, you can look them up and read them in their proper context.

It's important to mention that when the Bible symbolizes a country, it uses the symbolism of a "head" or a "mountain". And when it is symbolizing the king of that country, a specific person, it uses a "horn" to symbolize this.

First, just to clarify, the term "antichrist" is often taken as "against Christ", but in the original Greek, the meaning is "in place of Christ".

Daniel 7:8 "...there came up among (the ten horns) another little horn...speaking great things."

Daniel 7:11, "I beheld (observed) then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake: I ...(watched...until) the beast was slain and his body destroyed and given to the burning flame."

Daniel 7:21 "I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints and prevailed against them."

Daniel 7:25 "And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws, and they shall be given into his hand until a time (one year) and times (two years) and the dividing of time (a half year)." (3 1/2 years) "But the judgement shall sit (seat of judges) and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and destroy it unto the end."

The next section...Daniel chapter 8...switches back and forth in time: The setting is Daniel telling a dream that he himself had. The dream is about the empires which will follow the Babylonian empire, i.e. Medo-Persian and Greece under Alexander the Great. Alexander is depicted as a powerfully strong male goat. (see Daniel 8:20-21 where the interpretation is made very clear)

Daniel 8:5, "And as I considered, behold an he goat came from the west on the face of the whole earth...and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes. -- verse 8, "Therefore the he goat waxed (grew) very great, and when he was strong, the great horn was broken (Alexander was in his early 30's when he died) and for it (in it's place) came up four notable ones toward the four winds of heaven."

After Alexanders' death, his kingdom was divided up into four parts. This is important to keep in mind as it provides a clue as to which country the "beast" will rise out of:

Daniel 8:9 "And out of one of them came forth a little horn which waxed exceeding great toward the south and toward the east and toward the pleasant land." *1

Daniel 8:10 "And it waxed great even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the stars to the ground and stamped upon them."

This reference to "host of heaven" shows that it's not just a physical takeover, but that this beast is very spiritual and is waging a spiritual war. Then it refers again to "casting down" the "stars", also a reference to a spiritual attack or takeover of other spiritual beings.

Daniel 8:11 "Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host (Christ?) and by him was the daily sacrifice taken away..." Referring to the jewish sacrifices in the temple. *2

Daniel 8:17,19 and 23 "Understand oh, son of man, for at the time of the end shall be the vision..." "I will make you know what shall be in the last end of the indignation, for at the time appointed, the end shall be." "And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full," (note this part here...)

"...a king of fierce countenance (powerful look) and understanding dark sentences (hidden meanings) shall stand up. (verse 24) And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power (apparently meaning it will be satanic) and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people."

This is going to be quite some war he's going to wage.

Daniel 8:25 "And through his policy shall he cause craft* to prosper (*Hebrew: fraud, deceit, treachery) and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall he destroy many (possibly promising peace by making making more war. Not a new concept.) He shall also stand up against the Prince of princes, but he shall be broken without hand." (not by a human hand, that is.)

So these verses describe in some detail the different characteristics of this Beast as well as the general area that he will rise out of and his political tactics.

Some interesting quotes that'll set you thinking

Arnold Toynbee (1889-1975) said, "The nations are ready to give the kingdoms of the world to any one man who will offer us a solution to our world's problems." The first president of the United Nations General Assembly, Paul-Henri Spaak, who was also a prime minister of Belgium and one of the early planners of the European Common Market, as well as a secretary-general of NATO, affirmed, "We do not want another committee, we have too many already. What we want is a man of sufficient stature to hold the allegiance of all the people and to lift us up out of the economic morass into which we are sinking. Send us such a man, and whether he be God or devil, we will receive him."

President George Bush said in a speech before the U.S. Congress during the Gulf War, "We stand today at a unique and extraordinary moment. Out of these troubled times a New World Order can emerge. Today that New World Order is struggling to be born."

-------------------------

*1"pleasant land" in the original Hebrew meant "prominant". We might say today: politicly important country.

*2This temple has not yet been built as, at present, the Mosque of Omar is standing on the grounds of the previously destroyed Temple of Solomon. If you're interested, you can do a search on this in Lycos.
