Bulgarian Network Goes Live 

Siemens has handed over a 5,000 subscriber GSM network to Bulgarian 
operator, Mobiltel. The
network, which will be expanded to cope with nearly 30,000 subscribers by 
the end of this year,
attracted 800 subscription requests on the first day of operation. By the 
end of the year, the
network will cover 11 towns and cities and nationwide coverage will be 
available by the end of
1997. GSM subscribers in Bulgaria are expected to total 200,000 by the 
year 2005.Siemens, which
has long supplied GSM switches and recently announced its own basestation 
product, says
around a third of today's GSM subscribers use its networks.
