Here you will learn to play the game of Magic: TG.

  1. Decide who goes first, and set life totals at 20 each.
  2. Draw 7 cards from your Library (the main 60 cards).
  3. When its your turn, pick another card up ( the 8th card )
  4. When its your turn, look at your hand and see if you have any land(Land/Mana is what brings every card out. Black mana=Swamps White=Plains Green=Forests Blue=Islands Red=Mountains.) If so, then lay ONE down. You may only lay one land down a turn. (unless a card says otherwise).
  5. After laying a land down, or not, then you check to see if you may bring a card out. You may only bring a card out if you have the required mana. You can check to see if you do or do not by looking at the top right-hand side of the card, otherwise known as the casting cost. Here you will see a number value, a skull, a tree, a drop of water, a flame, or wheat...or any combination of those 6. So, let's say you have a card that has a skull and a 1 in it's casting cost..Well then you would need a Swamp and ANY other mana/land. If you have the requirements, then you may lay that card out.
  6. After laying the card out, you have to "tap" mana/land. This is where to turn card to the side you represent that they cannot be used again until you next turn. In the last example, you used a swamp and another mana/land..So in this case you will need to tap those 2 cards.
  7. Then, if you have any creatures out, you may attack. (Note: Creatures MUST stay out for at least 1 turn before it can attack or perform any actions, this is known at summoning sickness.)Deciding what does what damage is located at the bottom right of the card. Here, you will see #/#. ( or */*, */#, #/*...In this case you would replace the * what the card specifies)The number on the left is the creatures attack, while the number on the right is the creatures defense. So lets say you attack with a 5/5 creature, then your opponent would take 5 points of damage, bringing him/her down to 15 health. But, lets say your opponent has a creature out as well (a creature doesnt have to be out for more then one turn to block)...then he/she may choose to block.( you may block with as many cards as you wish) In this case, you will have to see who wins the battle. If you attack with the 5/5, and your opponent blocks with a 3/3, then his/her creature dies, but you deal NO damage to the foe. On the other hand, if you attack with the 5/5, and get blocked by a 6/6, then your creature dies. ( when I creature dies, or a card has been used, you put it in the graveyard..the graveyard is a pile of card located anywhere you want)BUT ! if you attack with the 5/5 and you get blocked with a 3/6, then neither creature dies. And so on and so forth. As you may notice, some creature cards have first strike, trample, rampage, etc.. In this instance, a card with First Strike attacks first. A card with trample tramples through the blocker ( hence the name ). So if 5/5 has trample, and a 1/1 blocks it, the opponent takes 4 points of damage. Rampage is when the attacking card get +1/+1 for every creature assigned to block it.
  8. Then, you must discard. Discarding is when you discard any amount of cards over 7 from your hand....if you have 7 or less then you may skip this step.
  9. Then its the next players turn
  10. When it's your turn again, you Untap any cards that were tapped. Allowing them to be used again.
  11. After, you return damaged creatures life totals back to normal.

Well, this is the best i could explain it without going mad...Other cards do what they say they do.
Note:All cards, not only creatures take up mana/land.
Mainly, the order of a turn is as follows..Untap, UpKeep, Draw, Main Phase, Attack Phase, Discard Phase, Next turn. Another thing to remember is something in the untap phase...Be sure to untap ALL land, becuase if there is a land tapped, and isnt being used for anything...you take damage equal to the amount of land tapped but not used. This is called Mana Burn. If you still have any questions, feel free to e-mail me by clicking Here
