Natural Family Planning (NFP)

NFP refers to the practice of avoiding or achieving pregnancy according to an informed awareness of a woman's fertility. It can also refer to the spacing of pregnancies through ecological breastfeeding.

Natural Family Planning is based on daily fertility awareness. It can be used both to achieve and to avoid or postpone pregnancy. When used to avoid pregnancy, the basic "method" is abstinence from the marital embrace during the fertile time. Technically, this form of NFP is best called "systematic" NFP, but today it is common to use the generic term "NFP" to mean only the systematic form without reference to ecological breastfeeding.

Sympto-Thermal Method

The SYMPTO-THERMAL METHOD is NOT Calendar Rhythm! It was developed by leading obstetrician/gynecologists and further refined by the Couple to Couple League. With this method, a woman observes two or three fertility signs which occur naturally within her monthly cycle. As the signs are observed and recorded, her fertile and infertile times are determined.

A basic fertility chart is filled out tracking waking temperature and other signs.  It is that simple yet precise and scientific.

Much more information can be found on the Couple to Couple League's website.
