Jonny Quest made his way to the kitchen through the
throng of people in his living room and halls.  It was
another one of his father's party's with famous
scientists and other well established people from
around the world.  It was actually being held for him
in celebration of graduating from college after 8
years of hard study and odd jobs here and there to
help pay for it.  Bandit, his ever faithful dog,
followed him to the kitchen as he got a drink of water
and then leaned back against the counter trying
somehow to make the peace and quiet last another
moment until he had to return to the noise of the
party.  He was thinking of what he might do next in
his life when Bandit started barking and yipping like
crazy as someone walked in from the kitchen door.  the
dog pawed at the new person's leg and whimpered.
Without thinking, Jonny ran and picked Bandit up,
"Sorry about that..." he started to appologize when he
looked up to see a red head with vibrant green eyes
smile back at him.
"Good afternoon Jonny Quest, haven't seen you in
years!"  Jessie Bannon gretted her old friend.
"Jessie!"  Jonny said elated as they embrased in a
bear hug.  Then he pulled away and held her at arms
length to look at her, "how long HAS it been?"  He
said in wonder.
"Not since we were 16," Jessie replied, "what's been
going on?"
"Well, as you can see, I *finally* got my degree,
which is quite a relief seeing as that I'm starting to
have a bit of trouble paying off all my loans."
Jessie gave a little laugh, "You're doing better than
me, I'm still working on my degree and I'll be damned
if *my* dad was gonna pay them."  Jessie laughed
again, Race wasn't known to give anything out easy.
"Well," Jonny said, "do you want to go for a walk or
something?  I don't think I can stand to be here for
much longer, too many people."
"You never were much of a people person, just an
elephant charmer(sorry, that doesn't have anything to
do with the story but I couldn't resist putting it in
there) a walk would sound really good, though, I just
got off an airplane, last time I fly coach." Jessie
said nonchalantly.
They both laughed as Jonny led Jessie out of the house
and down to the beach.

They walked along the edge of where the water met the
beach for a while, they had both taken off their shoes
and were leting the water lap against their feet.
Bandit trotted ahead of them as they talked and
laughed, reminising old times.
Finally they got to an old yet strong and sturdy tree
that they used to play on as kids and climbed a few
branches.  They sat side by side, watching the sunset
and leaning against the other as a sort of rest.
Then Jonny broke the silence, "Jess, do you ever think
about where you'll be in a couple of years?"
"Yeah, quite a bit actually, why?"  Jessie said.
"Just thinking..."
"You shouldn't do that so much." They both laughed.
Then Jonny spoke again, "do you ever wonder what would
have happened if you and Race hadn't moved away?"
"All the time"
"Do you think we'd ever get together?"
Jessie looked at Jonny for a minute, then replied,
"probably, do you think so?"
He turned to her, "probably, how long do you think we
would have been together?"
"why are you thinking about that?"
Jonny didn't answer her, he just leaned in closer and
let his lips graze hers, then they kissed, gently at
first, then harder, then one pulled away, then the
other.  They sat there for a moment, not moving, not
saying anything.  Then Jessie leaned her head on
Jonny's chest and said, "I think it would last...."

Disclaimer: I don't know if I really need this in an
e-mail, but just to be on the safe side.... I do not
own Jessie or Jonny or Bandit, or any of the other
charectors that I might have mentioned in this story,
the only thing that I do own is my bizarre habits of
staying up till three in the morning writing this stuff.
