in a fic.
*I don’t know if there really is a sea on the outskirts of Paris or
not, but
it was required, so I put one in. J

don’t
be mad at me!
The city of Paris had never looked as beautiful as it did on that February
eve, when every person who knew what love meant was in love. And every
person lucky enough to have their beloved in their arms was lost in
a world
of dreams and hopes…a world where there was no one but they, and their
love.
It was also a memorable day for the two young people from Rockport
Maine,
who fell in love beneath the hazy twilight on that lovely winter’s
eve.
February 14. St. Valentine’s Day.
“PARIS?! We’re going to Paris?! When?! How?! Why?!” squealed an excited
Jessie Bannon.
“Jeez, Jess, you’re acting like you’ve never been to Paris before.”
Remarked
Jonny quest, rolling his eyes.
“Of course I’ve been to Paris before,” said Jessie, defensively. Then
her
expression softened. “But never around Valentine’s Day.”
“Girls…” groaned Jonny, rolling his eyes.
Jessie was about to retort, when Race cut in.
“That’s enough you two,” he warned. “The Doc and I thought it would
be an
educational experience for you two to spend time in Paris. Besides,
don’t
you think it’s more interesting than spending time at Dr. LeNoir’s
lab in
Nice?”
“Well, if you put it that way…” Jonny mused. His expression brightened.
“Yeah it’ll be fun!”
The flight to Paris was long, but nice. Jonny slept the entire way,
while
Jessie was busy reading the travel guides and brochures she had collected
o
her last visit to Paris.
The city of romance, she thought dreamily. Much as she hated to admit
it,
Jessie was a hopeless romantic. She secretly dreamt of the time when
she
would put her hair up, wear a long silk gown, and walk down the stairs
to
the boy of her dreams who would hand her a bouquet of red roses. Then
he
would take her arm and they would head to an extravagant restaurant.
He
would look into her eyes, and tell her that she was the most beautiful
girl
he had even seen. Then she would smile and…
“Approaching Paris International Airport. We will be landing in
approximately three minutes. Please fasten your seatbelts, bring your
seat
back to an upright position, and make sure that the meal tables are
secure.
Thank you.”
The stewardess’s voiced broke into her thoughts.
We’re here! She thought, excitedly.
Race and Benton had to take the connecting flight to Nice, so they stayed
aboard the aircraft, while Jonny and Jessie said goodbye, and came
out.
As they took a cab and drove to the hotel Bon Jour on Champs Elysees,
Jessie’s excitement grew.
When they got to the hotel, they both hurriedly ran up to Jonny’s room,
and
crashed on the bed.
“Man, I’m beat.” Commented Jonny.
“After sleeping the whole way? You sure you’re not getting old?” teased
Jessie.
“Oh, gimme a break!”
“I’m going to my room. See you later.” She called, walking out.
They both took a small nap. When they woke up, it was already dark.
“Gosh, I’m starving.” Said Jonny.
“Hey, let’s get washed and changed and go to dinner.” Suggested Jessie.
They decided to grab a burger at Monte Carlo, on main Champs Elysees,
but
that was easier said than done. The restaurant was overcrowded, and
there
was no place for the two teens. Finally, they had to settle for a quite
dinner at a quaint little coffee shop.
Jessie had a chicken sandwich, while Jonny had turkey and rice.
“Paris is a beautiful city,” commented Jonny.
“Heart stopping, isn’t it?”
“Yeah…hey Jess, have I told you about the restaurant La Maison Blanche?”
“No.”
“It’s where my dad proposed to my mom. It’s really cool. They have
a live
orchestra and everything.”
“Sounds nice.”
“Yeah. You know, my dad fell in love with my mom there.” He smiled.
“Really, how?” Jessie smiled too.
“Well, they met when they were in college. They didn’t fall in love
at first
sight, though. At least not Mom.” Jonny paused.
“Well, what happened?” Jessie was curious.
“Their class planned a trip to Paris. Dad finally found the courage
to ask
Mom out. He took her to La Maison Blanche. They fell in love while
dancing
to “Eternal Flame.”
Jonny smiled again.
“How romantic,” commented Jessie, her eyes misty.
“Hey, how about going there tomorrow night?” asked Jonny.
“Great idea!” said Jessie, excitedly.
The next morning, Jonny went to the Louvre, while Jessie went shopping.
Paris is a great place to shop. She found so many absolutely stunning
outfits, that she didn’t know which ones not to buy.
Finally, after hours of gruelling decisions, she returned to the hotel,
with
six pairs of shoes, half a dozen evening dresses, two cocktail gowns,
ten
regular frocks, a dozen T-shirts, five pairs of French designer jeans,
two
pairs of formal trousers, three beautiful hats, a number of bracelets,
earrings, rings, hair accessories, cosmetics, and other embellishments
for
her plainer outfits back home.
I hope Dad doesn’t get a heart attack when he sees the bill, she thought.
When she got to her room, she sat down on her bed, exhausted. Suddenly
she
remembered her date with Jonny later that evening. She looked at the
clock.
She only had a couple of hours to dress up.
Hmmm, she thought, narrowing her eyes. What to wear?
Jonny looked at his watch and tapped his foot impatiently. What was
taking
Jessie forever to get dressed? He had knocked on her door a thousand
times,
and they had finally agreed that they’d meet in the lobby. He was about
to
go to the restaurant alone, when suddenly he heard gasps and “oooh”s
and
“aaaah”s behind him. He turned. And saw the most beautiful thing imaginable.
There stood Jessie in a white chiffon outfit. It was ankle length and
skin
tight, with gold flowers embroidered on the breast. She wore her luxurious
hair open and flowing down her back, with a single white flower tucked
behind her ear. The dress was sheer, showing tantalizing bits
of pale skin,
except around the breast. A slit exposed one perfectly toned leg.
There were tiny sapphire heart-shaped earring in her ears, and tiny
rhinestones adorned her neck and the front of her chest.
He stood there, frozen, as she walked up to him and took his arm.
“Ready to go?” she asked.
“Um…er…yeah…let’s g-go.”
La Maison Blanche was on the outskirts of Paris, set atop a cliff
overlooking the sea*. Jonny and Jessie were ushered to a seat by the
huge
glass wall, giving them a fantastic view of the ocean, while being
close to
the live orchestra.
They ordered lobster bisque soup as appetizer, Lobster Thermedore as
the
main entrée. For dessert, they ordered chocolate mousse.
It was a wonderful night. Because it was Valentine’s Day, there was
a
special live orchestra all the way from Poland.
The food was absolutely scrumptious. The two teens ate everything put
before
them.
At last, when every delectable morsel had been ravished, Jonny sat
back
contentedly and said,
“No wonder this place is so popular; that food was good!”
“That’s why it’s so expensive too. Hey are you sure you have enough
dough to
pay the bill?” Joked Jessie.
Just then, the orchestra members came back from their break, and started
playing “I Just Called To Say I Love You”. It sounded extra-nice because
the
lead-singer, Voytek, was so hot, he was scorching every female’s eyeballs.
“Hey, Jess, wanna dance?” Jonny asked, before thinking.
NOW you’ve done it, he told himself, glumly. She’s going to rebuff
you.
But, surprisingly enough, Jessie said yes. And that, too, very
enthusiastically.
They danced clownishly for a while, but, as fate would have it, Voytek,
moved away because too many gals had fainted over him already, a female
singer came onstage. There was some music before she started singing:
*Close your eyes,
Give me your hand, darling*
Jonny took Jessie’s small, white hand in his own, and pulled her close,
just
like all the other couples. As she rested her head on his shoulders,
her
eyes closed. They moved together, becoming one, as the melody continued.
*Dou you feel my heart beating?
Do you understand? *
Jessie was so close to him, she could hear the rhythmic beat of his
heart.
There was something lingering in the air, and it was making sense to
her,
though she knew not what it was.
*Do you feel the same?
Am I only dreaming?
Or is this burning
An eternal flame?*
Jonny was feeling something….something indescribable. There were no
words to
express this feeling. And somehow, he knew that the girl his arms felt
it
too. But maybe it was just wishful thinking. Maybe the magic in the
air was
nothing but a figment of his imagination. Maybe the fire burning inside
him
was just an image, one that only he could feel.
*I believe
It's meant to be, darlin'
I watch you when you are sleeping*
Jessie heard this song, which was new to her, but it felt as if the
words
were a product of her very soul. She suddenly knew that in her heart
of
hearts, she believed that she and Jonny were made for each other.
She remembered the way she felt when she would sometimes creep to his
room
early in the morning, just to look at him. The sight of his blonde
hair,
like a golden halo, and his peaceful expression, made her heart go
weak.
Sometimes just looking at him made her feel as though there was no
vice in
this world.
*You belong with me*
Yes, she thought. We belong together.
*Am I only dreaming?
Or is this burning
An eternal flame? *
No, she decided. It’s not just a dream, a fantasy. It’s true.
*Say my name,
Sun shines through the rain,
A whole life so lonely,
Then you come and ease the pain. *
“Jonny,” she whispered, opening her eyes and looking at him.
Instantly, he felt his world brighten. Every time she called his name,
he
felt like he was in heaven, where nothing bad would ever happen. Every
time
he felt himself falling into depression, Jessie turned it all around
and
made him so happy.
*I don't want to lose this feeling, oh. *
She started to say something, but he whispered,
“Shhh…”, not wanting to lose the moment.
*Close your eyes,
Give me your hand, darlin’
Do you feel my heart beating?
Do you understand?
Do you feel the same?
Am I only dreaming?
Or is this burning
An eternal flame? *
She closed her eyes, and put her head back on his shoulder, as they
moved in
rhythm to the final strains of the song.
Neither of the two knew how long they stood there, just holding on to
each
other, just trying to absorb each other. It could have been a minute.
It
could have been all eternity.
Finally, as night fell, they released each other. It had only been
a couple
of hours since they had entered La Maison Blanche s friends. They would
leave as so much more.
They walked out to the cliff’s edge hand in hand. The breeze blew in
intermittent bursts. Jessie shivered. Jonny came up behind her, and
enveloped her in his arms. He nuzzled her neck, making her cry out
in sheer
ecstasy. She turned in his arms, and kissed him softly at first, then
harder, more passionately. When their lips parted, he started kissing
her
neck. She held on to him tightly, as if clinging for support. He moved
back
up and claimed her lips again.
“I love you, Jess,” he said, then gasped. He’d never said that to anyone
before.
She hugged him in reply, and he suddenly felt wetness on his shoulder.
“Jess, what is it?” he asked softly.
She attempted to wipe the tears from her eyes and sniffed.
“I-I’m sorry. It’s just that…no one’s ever said that to me before.”
He hugged her tightly, and then led her back to their rented car.
The next morning, Race and Dr. Quest joined them. Race forgot to breathe
for
a minute when he saw Jessie’s shopping bills, but Dr. Quest only laughed.
“Things change, Race. Jess’s a grown up girl now. She needs to expand
her
horizons---and her wardrobe!”
“Easy for you to say, Benton, you won’t be indebted to Le Shoppe for
the
rest of your life. You’re lucky Jonny isn’t a spendthrift.”
But he was proved wrong, when Benton received a bill from the Jeweller’s
net
week, for a 24-Karat diamond ring, and fainted on the couch.
The End. This was really lame, wasn’t it?
