The moon shone on his back as the wind blew his short brown hair around his
green eyes.  He was young, very young, but he knew at that moment that he
had already found her.  They were destined to be.  It was like the legend of
Prince Binx.  He wrapped his arms around himself as a cool breezed chilled
him.  He imagined how warm she had been when he held his Emily.

*Several Years Later*

      "Emily."  Her name tickled her ears as it blew past her in the breeze.
Everything was so dark.  She could barely see two inches in front of her.
      "Who are you?"  She had asked that question so many times in the other
dreams, but she never had been given an answer.
      "Emily I'm coming again."
      "Again?  When did we meet before?  Please tell me what's going on."  She
waved her arms ahead of her trying to find something, anything.  She was in
her white tank top and light plaid silk pajama bottoms without any socks or
shoes.  The ground below her was soft, and a cool breeze sent goosebumps
down her arms.  A pale light swept past her and she became hopeful that she
might see something, but she realized that it was in vain when she saw the
thick white fog that surrounded her.
      "I can't see anything.  Where are you?  You never show yourself."  In the
distance, a dark figure formed from the fog.  "Is that you?"
      "Emily."  Her name was louder but still in a whispered tone, and it came
from behind.
      She turned from the figure.  "Hello?"  When no one answered, she turned
back around.  Before she had a chance to realize what was happening, she was
pulled up into a deep kiss.  She felt her insides melt as a pair of large
arms wrapped her closer.  Emily slowly managed to pull away, but just as she
went to open her eyes and look at who she was kissing, a white flash blinded
her and she woke with a start.
      "Damn it."  She dropped her fist down on the bed beside her and took a deep
frustrated breath.  That was when she realized her heart was still drumming
in her chest from the kiss.  "It wasn't real."  She declared to herself.
But it didn't do any good.  It just felt too real.  She pushed her blanket
aside and started to get dressed.
      This was the sort of thing her mother warned her about.  Emily remembered
when she turned 15, and she asked why her mother Jessie never seemed to age.
  She never seemed older than her mid 20s, and people would sometimes
mistaken them for sisters instead of mother and daughter.  "I'm what I was
told to be a 'Full Blood'."  Jessie had explained.  "I guess there are a few
people who are born with certain abilities.  I was also told that we were
accused of being vampires and witches throughout history."
      "Who told you this?"  Her mother only shrugged.
      "A dear friend of mine."
      Emily had been experiencing strange things at that time.  She would know
things before they happened.  Things moved with only a quick thought in her
mind.  Sometimes she could hear people's thoughts or sense what they were
feeling.  After putting up with it for almost a month, she had finally broke
down and asked her mother.  She felt that somehow her mother held the
answer.
      That had been several years ago because Emily was now 19.  She had just
graduated from high school and was working for a video store in town.  Emily
pulled her long red hair up into a ponytail and grabbed her car keys.
      "Going to work?"  Jonny asked from his coffee cup as she walked into the
kitchen.
      "Yeah, I work 'til five today."  Jessie walked into the room carrying a
small laptop.  She kissed her husband and smiled thoughtfully to her
daughter.
      "Are you coming straight home from work or are you going out?"  Emily
opened the fridge and grabbed a bottled water.
      "I don't know what Nancy wants to do.  Gotta go."  She kissed her mom on
the cheek and then her father.
      "Bye sweetie."  Jonny said as they watched her run out to her blue
Corvette.
      "I sense something strange." Jessie said as the car pulled away.  Jonny put
his hand on her shoulder and sighed.
      "She's a young adult now, and she'll make the right decisions.  Just be
patient and keep your faith in her."  Jessie nodded.
      "I know, but I'm afraid she'll learn the hard way like me.  I still feel
like Binx deserved to have had a second chance."
      "He gave up his life to ensure your safety.  Emily is his second chance."
      "I know."  She turned around and let Jonny hold her as her head swam with
mixed emotions.
~~~~~~~~~
      Zachary brushed his brown hair out of his green eyes.  The wind was fierce
that day as it pulled at his black shirt and black slacks.  It was a
beautiful day, and he couldn't help but want to take a walk.  The trees
leaned west as the wind pushed from the southeast.  The woods spoke to him,
revealing secrets of centuries long past.  Zachary listened with eager ears.
      "Hello brother."  A slightly taller man walked up to him from nowhere.  He
had black hair and dark eyes.  He wore his dark purple shirt with the top
three buttons undone, revealing a broad chest.
      "That's half brother."  Zachary corrected him.
      "We share the same father.  That's all that matters."  He picked up a leaf
and twirled it between his large fingers.  "Which means we have the same
blood coursing through our veins."
      Zachary flinched.  "Don't remind me."  He noticed that something had to be
troubling his brother.  "What's wrong Trevor?"
      "Nothing.  I just happened to be flying around and saw you walking toward
town and thought I'd say hello."
      Zachary smiled.  "You are so full of shit.  You didn't come by to say hi,
and besides, you know better than to fly around in the middle of the day."
      "I move too fast for anyone to see me."
      "Yeah, and you fly too low.  You're going to run into a tree or a pole
someday you know."
      "I fly low because I don't want to be caught on some nerd's radar and
believed to be an alien or something."
      "Whatever you say Trevor."  After a moment of walking along in silence,
Trevor broke in.
      "You're going to see her aren't you?"  Zachary didn't have to guess who he
was talking about.
      "No, I was going to just get some groceries and stuff."
      "Maybe rent a movie while you were in town?"  Trevor asked teasingly.  "You
know she's been seeing that David guy for two years now."
      "I know."  Zachary continued walking.
      "Do you think they've done it yet?"  Zach stopped and turned to Trevor.
      "I don't know and frankly, it's none of my business."  He said angrily.
      "Ooh, sore spot."
      "Can we talk about something else?"  Zach started walking again.
      "I'm just wondering what you're waiting for.  She's here, you're here, but
then you won't even let her see you.  Why?"
      "I'm waiting for her to be ready.  She still doesn't realize her full
powers."
      "Then show her."
      "I can't."
      "Why?  Are you afraid she won't like you?"  He let out a smug laugh. "I
could always take her for myself."
      Zachary stopped and looked his brother in the eye.  "Don't even joke about
that with me."
      As he turned to walk off, Trevor called to him.  "You better hurry before
she's too far gone for even the most powerful Blood to reach."
      Zachary turned back around, but his brother had vanished again.  Sometimes
he really didn't like him.  They had only known each other for six years.
Zachary was now 26, though he had quit aging since 22.  He sighed as he
finished his walk to the main road in town.  The buildings lined the whole
side of the road.  Max Video was lit up with pink and red neon letters.
Zachary could sense she was there, but he was also aware of her boyfriend's
presence as well.
      "David, I thought you left this morning for your sister's place."  Emily
called from behind the counter.  He was a tall guy in his mid twenties, with
light hair and bright blue eyes.  All of Emily's friends had a crush on him,
but she knew he wouldn't cheat.
      "I'm on my way back to the airport now.  My stupid flight was delayed
because of some engine troubles.  I just wanted to say bye one more time."
      "That's so sweet."  She leaned over the counter and kissed him quickly.
      "I better get going."
      "Bye."
      With one more look back, he disappeared out the doors.  A strange feeling
came over her, but she pushed it aside.  She was just feeling worried like
any other person feels when a loved one travels by air. David was a great
guy, and she felt happy and content when she was with him.  Yet, she
pondered the thought of whether she was really in love with him.  She tried
not to think about it.  Why worry when things were going so well? She
reminded herself to enjoy the good things while she still could.  Nothing is
forever.
      Zachary stood around the corner from the video store and listened to
Emily's thoughts.  Standing there in the shadows on a bright day made him
think about what Trevor had said.  Maybe he should at least introduce
himself.  It wouldn't hurt, but the thought of looking at her again, in her
lovely eyes, made him anxious and nervous at the same time.  After standing
there for a moment lost in thought, he took a deep breath and stretched his
arms in front of him.  He pushed the glass door open and stepped inside.
      Emily must had just walked to the back because no one was running the
register.  He casually walked around, scanning the covers of dozens of video
tapes.  He made his way from the new releases over to the old black and
white westerns.  He paused when he got to the horror movies.  "Interview
With a Vampire."  He read out loud to himself.  He liked the movie; he just
didn't like the fact that it gave him a bad reputation.
      "Ah here we go."  He picked up the movie Firestarter and looked at the
back.  A young Drew Barrymore starred as a gifted child who used her mind to
move things and protect herself.
      "That's a great movie."  Zachary looked up and saw Emily staring at him
from across the room.  His breath caught in his throat as she walked up to
him.  "I just love Drew Barrymore."
      "Yeah, me too."  He almost dropped the cover as he reached over to replace
it back on the shelf.
      "Hi, I'm Emily, and if there is anything you need, just give me a holler."
      "Thanks."  She smiled at him and walked back to the counter.  He debated on
whether he should just leave, but then he got an idea.  He picked back up
Firestarter and followed her to the register.  "Actually, I think I will go
ahead and get this movie.  Can I open an account?"
      "Sure, do you have a license?"  He reached into his wallet and handed her
the little card.
      "You live at 402 Malagant road?"
      "Yeah."
      "But you don't live in that old mansion, do you?"
      "Actually it's very nice once you get inside."
      "I can't believe anyone lives there.  I used to be so afraid of that place.
  I wouldn't get near it."  Zachary laughed.
      "Why don't you come over some time.  I can show you that there's nothing to
be afraid of."  She quickly shook her head.
      "No thanks.  I would end up embarrassing myself by screaming every two
seconds."
      "Oh it's beautiful inside.  The staircase is handcrafted red oak, and the
ceiling has paintings that are lit by the large chandelier."  She raised her
eyebrows.
      "It sounds beautiful."  After a moment of thought she nodded.  "Okay I'll
go,"  Then she raised her finger and pointed at him.  "But only if we go in
the middle of the day."
      He raised his hands up in defense.  "You're the boss."
      "I get off at five.  That gives me plenty of time before dark.  Is today
all right for you?"  He smiled warmly.
      "Today is perfect."  She handed him his license back along with his movie.
      "I'll be waiting."  With that, he walked out into the morning sun.
      During his walk home, he couldn't keep himself from smiling.  He played the
entire conversation in his mind over and over again.  He had to laugh at how
juvenille he was acting, but he couldn't help it.  He quickly made his way
home so he could begin preparing for Emily's visit.
      "Wow, who was that guy?"  Emily turned from the closing door and smiled at
her best friend Nancy.  She was Emily's age, but she had large curly blonde
hair.
      "His name is Zachary Conrad."  Nancy looked out the window and watched him
walk into the woods.
      "He's cute, but where is he going?  Doesn't he have a car?"  Emily walked
up next to her friend and shrugged.
      "I don't know.  We just met."  Nancy made a mischievous smile.
      "David hasn't been gone more than twenty minutes and you're making the
moves on another man."  Emily tried to hold back a smile as she playfully
slapped Nancy on the shoulder before walking back to the register.
      "You know me better than that.  I could never cheat on David.  I love him."
  Nancy walked over beside her.
      "Emily you're selling yourself short.  You're young, pretty, and very well
off.  Your parents have enough money between them to keep you comfortable
for the rest of you and your children's lives.  The only thing left for
fullfilment is to have some fun."  Nancy grabbed her half participating
dance partner by her hands and proceeded to twirl her around.  "While
David's gone, go out and test out some more guys.  You're too young to be
tied down already."
      Emily giggled as they almost tripped over each other as they danced.
"Maybe you're right, but I just wouldn't be able to look myself in the
mirror knowing I hurt David like that.  He's been so good to me all these
years."  Nancy sighed as she realized she wasn't going to win this
arguement.
      "Fine.  We'll go see a movie tonight, and I'll check out some of those
Calvin Klien booties while we're out.  You can mope around thinking about
David, but I plan on having fun though."  Emily made a worried face that
made Nancy stop and study her reaction.  "Okay what are you not telling me?"
      After a moment Emily sighed.  "I kinda told Zachary that I would go to his
house tonight so I can see his place."  Nancy burst into laughter, startling
Emily.
      "And when were you planning on telling me you had a date tonight?  What
would David think about this?"  She put her hands on her hips and gave a
playful challenge smile.
      "It's not a date.  When I checked his I.D. I found that he lives in that
old mansion on Malagant road."  Nancy dropped her hands and the corner of
her mouth also dropped with concern.
      "Isn't that place supposed to be haunted?"  Emily looked away as she
fiddled with some loose papers that sat on the counter.
      "I know, but he insisted that there wasn't anything to be afraid of.  I
told him I would only stay until just before dark."  Nancy glanced down at
her watch.
      "Well you get off at five.  Then it will take about four hours to get
dark."
      "I don't think I will stay that long."  Emily cut in.  "I'll probably be in
and out.  I'll be like: 'That's nice.' 'Thanks for inviting me.'  'See you
later.' Then I'll be on my way home again."  Nancy gave a look that was
difficult to read.  Emily got the impression that her friend was
unconvienced, but too tired to argue.
      "Okay, but if this guy turns out to be a creep, call me on your cell phone.
  I'll be up there in two seconds with my dad's hunting knife."  Emily
laughed and hugged her friend.
      "I appreciate the offer, but I can take care of myself."  Nancy pulled away
and started for the back room.
      "I know, you're stronger than you look, but sometimes it takes more than
strength to be the most powerful."  As Nancy disappeared behind the doorless
doorframe, Emily sighed and sat her head on her hand.
      The store was empty and her mind drifted off.  She started to think about
the dream and what it might mean.  Who was the guy?  Was there a reason why
she was never allowed to see his face?  David had never kissed her like that
man in the dream did.  Plus, the kiss in the dream left her light headed and
her heart heavy.  She seemed to be longing for something.  There was
something missing.  "Don't think about it."  She whispered to herself.
Trying to keep herself occupied, she looked over at the stack of video tape
covers.  She focused on the boxes, almost feeling their weight.  While she
imaged a large invisible hand coming from her to the tapes, the boxes slowly
began to shake.  Suddenly there seemed to be nothing else in the store that
mattered.  As the hand reached the shelf, the boxes lifted up high in the
air.  Soon they were dancing eight feet from the floor, twirling and
bouncing along.
      Out of nowhere a flash image of David's face burned in her mind.  The tapes
fell to the floor in a loud crash.  Nancy came out of the back when she
heard Emily cry out as if she was in pain.  "David."
      "Emily what's wrong?"  The girl was leaning on the counter with tears
streaming down her cheeks.
      "I saw David.  He was screaming my name with a look of horror on his face.
He looked so terrified."  She rubbed her arms as goosebumps poured across
her flesh.
      "Was it another image?"  Nancy knew a little about Emily's talent, but
neither one fully understood it.  Emily only told her about hints her mind
would drop, but never about her ability to move objects with her mind.  She
didn't want Nancy to think she was a freak.
      "Yes."
      "Do you think it has happened yet?"  Emily closed her eyes unable to bring
back the image again to look at it more closely.
      "I don't know."  Nancy quickly picked up the phone and dialed for
information.
      "I need the number for the airport here in Rockport."  After a moment she
quickly scribbled on a piece of paper.  Emily sat behind the counter shaking
violently, but she knew the sensation would take a moment to stop.
      After hanging up the phone, Nancy dialed in the other number.  "Yes, has
the ten o'clock flight to Nuckolls Nebraska left yet?  You guys know right
away if anything goes wrong, right?  Please keep this number 555-4697 and
let me, Nancy Wright know when the plane lands.  I don't care, just make
sure someone calls me immediately, understood?  Thanks."  Nancy placed the
phone down and glanced at Emily who still sat on the floor.
      "We should be hearing something before we get off tonight."  Nancy looked
up and smiled at a couple on the other side of the counter top.  "Can I help
you?"  Emily felt ashamed when she realized there were customers in the
video store, but since she was behind the counter, she assumed they didn't
even realize she was even there.
      After she was sure the people were gone and that she could control her
feet, Emily stood up with the help of Nancy.  "This was a bad one.  Are you
okay?"  Emily nodded.
      "I hate this."
      "Don't hate who you are."  Nancy brushed some loose stands of red hair from
Emily's eyes.
      "But I don't even know who I am."
~~~~~~~
      Jessie sat at her laptop while she was outside under a tree.  The Spring
sun peeked through the young green leaves, sending warm honey scented rays
into her long red hair.  She picked up a tall glass of ice tea and sat it on
the ground next to her bare feet.  She was wearing blue jean shorts and a
black tank top as she bobbed her head lightly to the low volumed music that
came from her computer.  She didn't even notice the handsome blonde man who
stood in the doorway watching her.  Jonny still got a nervous sting in his
stomach when he watched his wife.  Someday he hoped the shock of knowing she
was all his would have to settle in.  Even after all those years that had
come and gone, he felt every moment with Jessie as if it was the first.
      Jessie rubbed her finger across the small black square on the bottom of her
laptop keys to move the pointer to the underlined link.  She had spent most
of her day working on boring reports for work, but she got a curious urge to
try and see if she could find information that dealt with telepathy and
other phenomenon.  She used both of her hands to lift her hair up off of her
neck as she patiently waited for the web page to finish downloading.  As she
sighed and felt the gentle breeze blow around her, she felt a slight tickle.
  She jerked as a startling chill sparked through her body.  She felt a pair
of strong arms wrap around her and pull her close as someone kissed the side
of her neck.
      "Oh that feels good."  She sighed and let the sensation consume her.  "But
you really should stop.  My husband might see us."  She heard and felt the
figure behind her let out a playful laugh.
      "I'm sure I could kick his ass."  Jonny whispered.
      "What makes you think that?  I don't marry wimps you know."  He let her go
and walked beside her and knealed down so he could look into her green eyes.
      "No one could be strong enough to keep me away from you."  She leaned
forward and kissed him deeply.
      "Good answer.  You get a brownie point for that one."  His eyes sparkled as
he stared into her eyes with a silly grin on his face.
      "I love you Mrs. Jessie Quest."
      "You better, or I will kick your ass."
      "That I don't doubt for a moment."  He followed her gaze to the dark screen
in front of her.  "I thought you were working?"  He asked.
      "I was, but I got bored and decided to see what I could find on Full
Bloods."  Jonny looked at the screen that had pictures of vicious vampires
holding beautiful women who wore little clothing as they hung limp in the
monster's grip.
      "Don't look at that crap.  You're not a vampire or a monster.  You were
just born with special gifts."
      "Binx said that our kind were accused of being witchs and vampires, and
that I was a chosen one.  Who chose me though?  Why me?"  Jonny grabbed her
hand and held it against his cheek.
      "Maybe it was God, and he chose you because he loves you almost as much as
I do.  I know it doesn't make sense, but you have to try and be strong.
Emily is showing signs of her powers as well.  Binx said she would be the
most powerful, but she seems scared."  Jessie nervously rubbed her elbow.
      "It's all my fault.  She needs answers to questions that I don't even
understand myself.  I can't teach something that has me just as lost as my
own daughter.  I feel like I haven't done my part in helping the Full
Bloods.  I've let Binx down."  Jonny shook his head.
      "No you haven't.  Emily is a good and honest young woman.  I think we have
both busted our asses to make her that way, and I'm proud of her."
      "I'm proud of her too, but..."
      "And I'm proud of you."  Jonny interupted.  "You have tried so hard to
understand something that is unresearchable.  Without Binx or another Full
Blood, you still managed to have very skillful powers.  Just give Emily time
to want to become more powerful.  It's almost like faith.  No one can teach
someone to have faith, they have to feel it all the way through their soul
before they can even begin to understand it."  Jessie studied Jonny's face
for a moment as she concidered what he said.
      "When did you start being so damn smart?"  He smiled proudly.
      "I learned from the best."
