for a moment as she concidered what he said.
      "When did you start being so damn smart?"  He smiled proudly.
      "I learned from the best."

PART 3
      Trevor walked across the roof of the business building.  He could see the
people walk down the streets, unaware of him watching from a distance.  He
loved feeling different than them.  He valued who he was, and he felt
unstopable.  He heard the front door of the building he sat on open.  He
leaned over the edge and watched a curly blonde young woman walk out.  She
was wearing blue jeans and a dark blue work shirt.  He focused onto her and
closed his eyes.  Her thoughts became audio in his mind.  Her name was
Nancy.  She was thinking about her best friend Emily.
      He paused when the thought of Emily triggered something inside of him.  He
broke from Nancy's thoughts and sat on the edge of the building.  What was
it that Zachary saw in her?  Was there something he was missing?  But
Zachary was a sentimental fool.  Trevor decided to have a little fun.  A
part of him warned to be careful, but he already had his mind made up.  He
was determined to make sure his brother wasn't waisting his time on this
one.  There had to be plenty of other Full Bloods hiding throughout the
world, but Zachary had chosen this one.
      Afraid that someone might see him, Trevor climbed down the step ladder from
the roof and hopped onto the ground below.  He smoothed back his dark hair
and stepped into the video store.  No one was in sight as he casually walked
around the room glancing at the covers.  He thought he heard someone in the
back.  Then he saw her.  She had her red maine pulled back into a simple
poneytail.  She looked over at him and smiled.
      "Can I help you find anything?"  He tried to not show how he was studying
her, but then he glanced down and realized he was standing in front of the
adult section.
      "Um."  He said nervously.  All the movie covers had half naked people
kissing and rubbing each other.  "I didn't find what I was looking for.
Sorry."  He quickly walked out the door feeling embarrassed.
      "Wimp."  He whispered coldly to himself.  He didn't know what made him
chicken out, but then he felt himself bump right into someone.
      "Excuse me."  He looked down and immediately recognized Nancy's friendly
face.  Her eyes smiled at him from behind her long blonde bangs.
      "No problem."  He watched her as she went back into the video store.  "At
least I didn't embarrass myself in front of her friend."
~~~~~~~~
      "Now that guy I saw outside was cute.  I got chills when he bumped into
me."  Nancy  meantioned for the fourth time that afternoon.
      "I know, I saw him too."  Emily said impatiently.  It was almost five
o'clock and there still hadn't been a call from the airport.
      "Let me give them another call."  Nancy picked up the phone and called for
the fifth time since her first one that morning.  After talking for a
moment, Nancy hung up.
      "Everything went fine.  They landed forever ago, but no one knew which
flight I was talking about.  He got there in one piece."  Emily sighed.
      "I'm so glad."  She glanced down at her watch.
      "Getting second thoughts on that date with Zachary?"  Nancy asked with a
smile.
      "It's not a date, and no I'm not having second thougts."
      "Well you have ten minutes, but go ahead and clock out.  I'll finish
cleaning up for the next shift."  Emily shook her head.
      "No, I can help."  Nancy put her hands on her hips and gave Emily a
frustrated look.
      "Will you quit fighting me and get your ass over to that hot guy's house?"
Emily threw her hands up in a defensive manner.
      "Okay you win.  I'm gone."
      "Thank you."  Emily walked into the back and clocked out.  She started to
walk toward the door as she untucked her green work shirt from her khaki
pants.  "Have fun and call me as soon as you leave his house."
      "You got it, and thank you Nancy."  She seemed confused.
      "What for?"  Emily shook her head.
      "For being my friend and putting up with my shit."  Nancy threw her head
back and laughed.
      "It's a two way street girl.  Now will you get out of here?"  Without
another word Emily headed for her corvette.  As she started the car and
pulled into the streeet, she picked up her cell phone that was plugged into
her cigerette lighter.  She dialed her house number.  No one answered the
phone, but she wasn't too surprised.  They must be outside.  She thought to
herself as the answering machine picked up.
      "Mom, Dad, I just got off work, but I'm going to a friend's house.  Call my
cell if you need me.  Love you guys."  She turned off the phone and sat it
next to her as she made the trip up to the outskirts of town.  She knew the
area fairly well.  Her parents used to take her bike riding all through the
hills.  They often passed the old mansion of Malagant road.  Emily
remembered the strange chills she would get whenever she looked at the old
brown building.  She always felt weird about it, yet she also had a strong
curious urge about it.
      "I guess that's why curiosity killed the cat."  She commented to herself as
she drove up to the driveway.  Most of the time, the gate was locked with a
large chain wrapped around it, but the chain was gone.  The gate was wide
open and ready for her arrival.  The driveway came up to an old garage that
was closed, and a nice black Firebird sat to the side in the shade of a over
hanging oak tree.
      Emily picked up her cell phone and held it in her hand as she got out of
the car and walked to the main entrance at the front of the mansion.  The
door was large and heavy.  She was afraid to knock, but she saw the light
glow of the door bell.  She pushed the button and the sound of large chimes
echoed from the other side of the dark red oak door.
      "Emily."  She turned around and saw Zachary standing behind her.  For a
split second she felt a chill vain across her arms, and she shivered.
      "Well I made it."  She said nervously.
      "You did and I'm glad you did."  He walked over to her and smiled.
      "There's a lot of neat stuff I want you to see."  He leaned over her and
pushed the door inward.  The hinges whined with agony as they held the heavy
door while it swung open.  Emily gasped as her eyes trailed upward.
      It was just like he described at Max's Videos.  A large chandelier hung
from a dome shaped ceiling, that was painted in a gold tone.  It wasn't
Michelangelo's masterpiece, but it was uniquely as beautiful.  "Wow."
Zachary laughed and Emily turned to him with a challenging grin on her face.
      "What's so funny?"  He shook his head.
      "You had the same reaction I did when I first saw this place."  He led her
in and closed the door behind them.
      "When did you start living here?"  Emily asked as he started to make his
way around the large rooms.
      "I was about seven when we moved into Rockport."
      "My mom was the one who practically raised me by herself.  My father was
always gone at work.  I think I was about eleven when they divorced.  I
later found out it was because my father was having an affair with a woman
at work."
      "That's rough."  Emily commented as they walked through the large rooms
toward the back yard.  She only glanced around as her mind played the story
Zachary told.
      "She wasn't his first as I understood it."  Emily looked at him with a
puzzled look before he continued.  "He was well known for being with lots of
other women.  My mother never even hinted anything was wrong.  She was a
strong and proud woman, and my father was a wealthy man.  So after
collecting money from the divorce and borrowing from family, my mother
bought this old house.  She loved this place, and she died in it when I was
fifteen."
      "Who took care of you?"  He shrugged.
      "I had myself to turn to.  The police tried to fix me up with foster
parents, but they knew I would never coraporate.  My mother named me to
inherent her money and this property because she knew I would take care of
it."
      "You've been alone ever since?"  Emily asked.
      "No, I still went to school and worked.  I had plenty of money, but I had
to get out into the world.  I eventually quit and now..."  He turned to
Emily who stopped and watched him as he considered his next words.  "I've
kinda lost my purpose.  To be honest, I don't know what I'm going to go
next."
      "I know how that feels."  Emily turned around and saw a large fountain
standing in the middle of the back yard.  Baby angels were flying up to the
top of a large tree that had water running down its leaves.
      "Come on inside with me."  Emily nodded and let her eyes stay fixed on the
beautiful fountain as she walked back inside the house.
      She followed Zach as he entered a large room with white leather plush
couches circling in front of a large screen t.v.  Even though it was an
older version than what most stores would carry today, the t.v. was still in
excellent condition.
      "I still haven't watched Firestarter.  Would you like me to put it in?"  He
asked.  Emily smiled with a nod.
      "Sure, I haven't seen that movie in a long time."
      He walked out of the room while she went over and sat on the love seat.
After returning with the tape in one hand, he held a large clear bowl with
popcorn in the other.
      "You didn't happen to plan this did you?"  She asked as he laid the bowl on
the table in front of her.
      "Um, truthfully yes."  She laughed out while he pushed the tape into the
VCR.
      "Well at least you're honest."  Zach turned on the t.v. and sat in a
recliner that was across the other side of Emily's love seat.
      "Aren't you going to have some popcorn with me?"  Emily asked as she shook
the popcorn.
      "Well I didn't want to give you the wrong idea."  She laughed again, and he
felt embarrassed for being so shy.
      "Don't worry about what I think.  Now get over here before I eat the entire
bowl by myself."  He looked to the ground as he got up and sat next to her.
She picked up the popcorn and sat it between them.
      "See, this is much better."  She sat back and shoved a handful of popcorn
into her mouth.
      The movie started with a car chase with a little girl and her father
against the bad guys.  As the movie went on, it revealed that the two had
been part of a government experiment and it left them with Earth crushing
powers.
      "What do you think of that?"  Emily asked as the little girl blew up a
brick wall with only her mind.
      "Pretty scary I guess.  Then again, just think about how helpful she could
be when she grows up.  That's if she learns to control her powers."  Emily
remained unchanged and quiet.  He looked over and watched how the t.v. gleam
made her green eyes dance.  He wished he could read her thoughts at that
moment, but with her sitting so close she would be aware of what he was
doing.
      "Why do you ask?"  He said after a moment.
      "I don't know."  She seemed to be lost in thought instead of watching the
screen.  Just then her cell phone rang.  "Hold on."  She told Zach as she
turned the phone on.  "Hello?"
      "Emily, this is Nancy.  How's it going with Zachary?"
      "Fine"  Emily casually answered.
      "He's there with you isn't he?"  Nancy asked as she giggled.
      "Yep."
      "I only called to see how much longer you were going to be there so I would
know if we can still catch a movie."
      "I'm not sure yet, let me get back to you later."
      "Okay babe, but if I don't hear from you by eight o'clock I'm going without
you."
      "That's fine.  I'll talk to you later then."  Emily hung up the phone and
turned to Zachary who had a puzzled look on his face.
      "It was Nancy.  She's my best friend.  She's known me longer than David."
      "Who?"  He asked as if he didn't already know.
      "David's my boyfriend."
      "Oh I'm jealous."  Zachary said jokingly as he brought a hand to his chest.
      "Don't try and make me feel guilty."  She teased back.  He stopped and
tilted his head slightly to the side.
      "Seriously, he is a lucky guy."  Emily smiled and turned back to the movie.
  He felt her shut him out.  "I'm sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable."
He said.
      "No,"  She shook her head.  "I'm sorry for making you feel like you did."
      "Then it's agreed, we're sorry."  They laughed and watched the rest of the
movie in a comfortable silence.  As the credits started, Emily glanced down
at her watch.
      "It's almost 7:30.  I should go ahead and go."  Zachary stood up and
stretched his arms above his head.  Emily quickly glanced away when she
realized she was watching him.
      "Well, I'm glad you came.  I never invite girls over, but I just hope you
don't think I'm some psycho or something."
      "I've known a lot of psychos in my life, and I know you're not one."
      "How would you know?"
      "I have a gift for these things."  He took a step closer.
      "Like Drew did in Firestarter?"  Emily let out a nervous laugh and
pretended to only be amused by the question.
      "Hum, I wish."  She headed for the door and Zachary followed.
      "Would you like me to walk you out to your car?"
      "Sure."  They walked out into the dimming late afternoon.
      As they approached her car she turned to Zachary as she gestured to his
car.  "Why don't you drive your car?"  He was surprised by her question.
      "Nancy saw you walk into the woods when you left the video store."  She
explained.
      "Oh,"  He didn't seem bothered by knowing she watched him.  "Well I just
like walking in the woods.  I love trees."
      "Me too."  She turned around so she could lean her back against her car.
"I don't know why, but I've always had this thing for trees."
      "Well the way I see it, trees are great because they're strong, reliable,
and essential to life, yet they are just as fragile as we are.  They even
bleed when they're cut."
      "I never thought about all of that, but it makes sense."  Her cell phone
started ringing again at that moment.
      "Nancy?"  He asked with a smile.
      "Probably."  She clicked it on and answered.  "Hello?"
      "Last chance.  The movie starts in twenty minutes."  Nancy's familiar voice
was excited on the other end.
      "I'll be there.  Which theater?"
      "The new one."
      "Okay I'm on my way."  Emily turned the phone off and looked over at
Zachary who was playing with something on the roof of her car.
      "What movie are you guys going to watch?"  He asked as he met her eyes.
      "I don't know, but I'm sure it has tons of cussing, sex and action in it.
Nancy loves those movies."  Zachary started laughing.
      "I don't doubt it."  They stood there for a moment unsure of what to say.
The sky around them was just starting to show signs of dusk.
      "Well." He started. "You better go before Nancy sends a search party."
      "You're probably right."  Emily opened her door and sat down.
      "Thanks for coming.  It was nice getting to know you."
      "Well thanks for having me.  I do like your place.  I can't believe the
place I was so afraid of is so beautiful inside."
      "It's a common mistake."  He closed her car door for her and she started
the engine.
      On the way to the theater, Emily thought about all that was said once she
arrived at Zachary's house.  What did he mean with his last comment?  'It's
a common mistake.' Did he mean she was judging by what the outside looked
like?  It occurred to her that she should have tried to read his thoughts
during her visit, but she didn't want to try anything weird on him.  She
realized she was afraid that he would find her out and be afraid of what she
was.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

      Emily walked into her room around midnight, and flopped down on the side of
her bed.  She ended up going out to eat with her friends after the movie.
"I'm so stuffed."  She complained as she sat her Taco Bell cup on her
nightstand.
      She started to unbutton her pants when her phone rang from beside her cup,
on the night stand.  "Hello?"
      "Emily?"  A familiar voice asked.
      "David, you called.  What is it like in Nebraska?"
      "Great."  He let out a sigh.  "I miss you."
      "I miss you too."  She sat down on the edge of her bed and started taking
off her shoes.
      "What did you do tonight?"  Emily paused as she considered telling him
about Zachary.
      "Nancy and I caught a movie and hung out with the gang."  She didn't want
him to get jealous or the wrong idea.  "How about you?"
      "I've spent most of my time looking after my little nephew Rielly.  We're
going to an amusment park tomorrow."
      "That's great.  Don't get sick on any of the rides."  She stood up to slip
off her clothes and walked to her dresser and grabbed some grey shorts and a
white t-shirt.
      "You know me better than that.  I love rollar coasters more than anything."
      "Even me?"  She teased.
      "Well...."
      "David!"  She heard him laughing from the other end of the line.
      "Of course not.  I love you Emily."  She had a strange feeling in her
stomach.
      "I love you too."  She felt disconnected as he went on.
      "I'll see you in a few more days.  Bye."
      "Bye David."  She hung up the phone and sat on the edge of her bed still
only wearing her bra and panties as she nervously played with the clothes in
her hands.
      "What's wrong with me?"  She thought out loud to herself.  She quickly got
dressed and got under the covers.  It wasn't long before she fell into a
deep sleep.

      Zachary stood at the trunk of the tree as he looked up at Emily's lit up
window that suddenly turned off.  He walked over to the house and placed his
hands onto the cool brick before closing his eyes.  In his mind's eye, the
wall became a black and white image until it dissapeared entirely.  He felt
himself walk through the house and down the hall.  He walked through a
closed door and across the large room.  There she was, sound asleep.
      He extended out his hand and stroked the side of her cheek.  He could
almost feel her warmth as if her was actually there.  He decided to leave
her to rest.  He just had to see her one more time and make sure she was
safe.  His instincts were going crazy.  Something was going to happen; he
just didn't know what.  From outside, Zachary took his hands off the wall
and stepped back to look at her window again.  The bright moon beamed down
on his cheeks, and he stood there for a moment to let the moment soak in.
It was almost like that night so many years back.  He remembered how small
and fragile she looked when she slept in his arms.  He knew he would die for
her even back then.
      The same day his parents had moved to Rockport, Zachary had a dream that
night about a strong and beautiful woman who stood with him.  He remembered
the legend of Prince Binx, the most powerful Full Blood in his time.  He
gave his powers to the woman he loved so she could continue the royal Blood
line.  Zachary always felt he would be the one to find the princess.  As he
walked away from Quest Compound he continued to play the past in his mind.
      Emily had to be her.  When he woke from the dream that night, he found
himself running through the woods late at night.  When he approached a home,
it was like he was scheduled to be there.  He took Emily that night and
brought her to the woods.  He just had to see her, feel her presence.  He
left her to be found by her parents, but he vowed to have her.  He wanted
her completely and willingly.  After watching her from a distance for so
long, he had grown restless.  She was now a young woman.  Her powers were
mostly dormaint deep inside her, and he started to wish he had stepped in
sooner and showed her how special she was.  Her abilities and heratage was
something she should never fear.  He rubbed his hand along the bark of a
large tree as he let out a loud sigh.
      "I hope I haven't failed you.  I couldn't forgive myself if I was too
late."  He started for home.  It was getting late, and the night left his
limbs chilled and his heart heavy.
      A new hand rubbed across the spot of the tree that Zachary had consoled his
thoughts to.  Trevor glanced up at his brother who faided off into the dark
woods.  Trevor's curiosity was at its peak now.  With Zachary being a Full
Blood, well aware of his abilites, he could block his thoughts from Trevor.
Though Trevor used to be frustrated by that fact, he didn't care now.  He
knew what Zachary was up to now.  His little brother was always the weak one
with his heart always in his hand.  That was going to cost him someday.
That much, Trevor was sure of.
