Other:Wufei is a member of the Chang clan that has an unboken lineage in the ancient warrior ways. He was trained not only in Chinese martial arts but also in weaponry in general. Wufei loves to be alone and is the solitary member of the group who hates group activities but he learns to fight together with the other Gundam pilots with whom he shares the same aspirations. Wufei is very close to his gundam which he holds in the highest regard. He believes that he has to prove himself in order to fight with it which sometimes gets him in trouble. He doesn't think that he's strong enough to pilot the suit and trains very hard so he can feel himself worthy enough to fight with the suit. He blows up a portion of an OZ base and is chase by Noin. When she see's that he's just a boy, he gets away and insults her for being a "weak woman" which also shows that he has little respect for women. This is unusual because, prior to all of the fighting, Wufei was married to Chang Merian who died later on.

Wufei is on his own most of the time which is fine with him and is one of the most ruthless of all of the pilots. It is also true that all of the other members of his "clan" were killed when Wufei was forced to blow up the colony that they were on which makes him the last of his clan...even though he was exiled. He is very stubborn and arrogent, not trusting many people, and having the mindset that "Might is Right." That changed, though, when he met up with Sally's band of rebels that were fighting against OZ by engaging in guerilla warfare at one point. It was then when he realized that maybe his way of thinking wasn't the right one and changed his ways a little, dropping the arrogance a little and becoming a much smarter fighter. The need for the change in attitude came when Wufei confronted Treize and the confrontation resulted in a sword fight. After some vigorous fighting, Wufei was defeated but Treize spared his life. Wufei felt extremely weak at this point and promised that he would come back and defeat Treize one day. He did get the chance during the final battles when Treize decided to go out and fight, himself, in the Tallgeese 2. Wufei and Treize engaged in a battle of mobile suits and Treize provoked Wufei into striking the final blow and killed him. Wufei, though the winner, was depressed afterwards and mourned Treize's death, which effected him enough to make some unintelligent decisions in the future.

During the Endless Waltz, Wufei, still haunted by Treize's ghost, did not want to give up his mobile suit so that they could be destroyed. Instead, he took the suit and joined Mariemaia's (Treize's daughter) group. He captured Trowa and fought Heero who made him realize that he was fighting for Treize at the time. Wufei finally figured out that if Mariemaia ruled the world, the fighting would never stop so he joined with the pilots again and started an uprising of angry citizens to stand against the Barton family while the other pilots fought on the battle ground. After giving up and destroying his gundam, Wufei let go of his past and finally let go of Treize. He then decided to join the Preventers with Sally.

MY TAKE
First off I have to say that I'm a girl and through most of the fighting, Wufei looks down on any type of woman so right there are a couple of points off. Wufei, although, is a excellent fighter because he has a lot of anger in him and he usually harnesses it towards defeating his enemy. That variable makes him a very dangerous threat to anyone he is fighting against and that is a good way to fight. On the other hand, he is very pompus and very dogmatic which pisses off a lot of people. I understand that he is from China and I hear that that is how it is there but I find those traits very annoying and makes me want to punch him in the face most of the time. He does have a lot of honor and does mourn for Treize after he kills him, showing that he didn't really want to because he respected him. That is rare yet Wufei does show that. It also seems like he wants to be the best that he can because that is the only way that he can fight with Shenlong (Nataku as he likes to call it) and striving to be the best is respectable too.

I guess it's time for the DANDIN MATRIX RATING SCALE

AS A PILOT ****1/2 (4.5/5 stars)
AS A CHARACTER: ** (2/7 stars)
