Sarah winced as she was thrown to the crumbled mess of what remained of the wall. One eye was caked shut with dry blood, and her right arm lay limp by her side. She faintly made out the cruel laughter of the man's companion.
"You wont get anything from the little tramp." His harsh voice peirced through her weariness and pain, filling her with cold and an unforbiding sence of danger. She curled into a fetal position as she heard footsteps coming towards her. Her body tensed and she waited anxiously for somingthing to happen. But the footsteps stopped abrubtly as a noise filled the room.
She weakly accnoledged the sound as something she had heard before, and before long her mind linked it to the sound that had come before she had watched her parents sink to the ground and stop moving.
And then her mind gave her the word, the word that named that thing.
A gun.
Slowly she cracked open her eye, searching the room quickly. No other people had fallen to the ground this time, but the two men were facing toward the door. Moving her head slightly, ignoring the searing pain it sent through her, she brought her gaze to the doorframe.
Standing there was a sillouete of a person. She couldnt see who the person was, but as she was looking at him, her eye fell upon a small silver cross that hung around his neck. All of a sudden Sarah felt peace and calm wash over her. She was amazed she could see anything that small with so many tears filling her view, but she didnt want it to stop. She closed her eyes, letting the image of her surroundings diminish, and that cross to appear in front of her, hugging her close with its warmth, wispering comforting thoughts, and relaxed her body, but her peacefull world ended when the harsh voice spoke again.
"Who the Hell are you!"
"I am Shinigami, and i have come to make you pay for your sins."
The voice was soft and warm, and brought almost as much comfort as the vision of the cross had.
"The Hell you will!" The man pulled out his own gun and once again the ecoing sound filled the room. Sarah whimpered and clamped her eyes shut tightly. "Not again...not again..." The shadow smirked.
"You missed." Two more shots ran through the still air, and then silence fell upon the room. The only thing heard was Sarah's labored breathing. Once more footsteps fell into place umong the scattered silence filling the room, finding thier way through the debris to Sarah.
"no....daddy...help..please..." Her voice was desperate and strained, cracking under the labor of talking. The footsteps stopped and Sarah felt the pressence of a person next to her.
"Lord forgive! She's just a child!" "Its all right, Kid" He said softly, gingerly placing his arms around the small bundle.
"Your...alive!"
"Yeah, dont worry about me. Can you tell me your name?"
"S-....Angel." "Daddy...always called me Angel...daddy's little angel..." With that she fell into a calm sleep, leaning against the warmth of his body. Duo looked amazed at the kid in his arms, she couldnt be more than 5!
"Well, cant just leave her here." He exclaimed and carefully stood up, with the little girl in his arms.
