Specific Danger That Young Rangers Should Be Aware Of
I've descided that I would start a page to name some specific Dangers (that all rangers should be aware of), I have encounted throught my travles of Norrath.
LESSON #1 You cannot out run everything in the game.
Things that are faster than a fleeing ranger. Griffons, Trakaraptor's, and Brownies. If your the bait, (as you should be since rangers were made for pulling in outdoor zones), the odds are against you. You will most likely end up getting killed, or severly thrashed if you attempt to lead any mob listed above to the group.
Eventually it will happen. One of these days you will problably find yourself on a plane of fear raid, and after a successful break in and establishing of yer camp. If your peeps are newbies they might turn to you and decalre that you should be the person pulling, since your an outdoor puller, and Fear is an outdoor zone. Heh, I advise you, to advise against their suggestion that you pull, and nominate one of the Feign Death (FD) pullers instead. If they argue with you, then go ahead and volunteer for the job, knowing that you will die and that unless a mob is unlucky to dispell your SoW a TPW will most likely ensure. So have /loc on a hotkey, to make the recovery of yer corpse a little more easier.
Also it should be mentioned that some dragoons have SOW. This means that as you try to out run them they can chase you all the way to the nearest zone all the while stickin a blade in ya back. Odds are that as you run for the zone they will kill you. Aye curse the day Darkelves were created.
Some mobs Summon. Yep once you hard aggro one of these fiends theres no getting away! Watch your DS, as it CAN establish hard aggro, if a mob attacks you. Play it safe and expect any and all mobs over lvl 60 to summon.
Finally I should mention that there mobs who can shadowstep. The Ratmen in Dragon Nec. come to mind. So as you and your duoing friend flee to the zone don't be suprised if the rat men keep reappearring just ahead of you as you flee for the exit. Oh and be sure to tell the friend that your duoing with the beetles will be fast enough to run her down, despite her run speed 3 points.
LESSON #2 When using assist make sure auto attack is turned off
When you are grouped with an enchanter and your assisting the main tank. I strongly recomend that you Make a Hotkey, so that you can quickly switch targets. Just be sure that you TURN OFF THE AUTO ATTACK when you are using an assist hotkey. If you forget to turn off the auto attack, then you will break the mez when you click on the hotkey to change targets.
Typically I set up a hot key with the following
line 1 /sit off
line 2 /assist (name of MA)
line 3 /g Assisting (name of MA)
line 4 /assist off
LESSON #3 Use Snare to Avoid Trains in Dungeons
snare every mob, snare every mob, snare every mob.
And when a necro or SK is snaring w/darkness keep tangling weeds up JUST IN CASE!
