........Goten, the heir to Gohan's throne of kawaazziiness (craziness for all you stupid people) , was one of the few characters that actually had enourmous potential (he probably could have surpassed Goku if he wanted), seeing as how he had managed to turn SSJ at a mere age of 7, before he even knew bukujatsu! He was always eager to help out during battle. He had a great sense of adventure, just as his dad did in the original DragonBall. He was always looking for someone to fight. In fact, when Videl told him and Trunks about Buu, they nearly peed in their pants with excitement. They couldn’t wait to see him! But as time went on and Goten became a teenager he gradually lost interest in training and fighting and concentrated more on getting dates. Goten also was the only male member of his family that never reached SS2 level. I personally would have liked to see Goten’s character become more powerful, but the storyline didn’t allow much opportunity for him to grab the spotlight, thus less chance for development of his character. What a shame!
……..Aside from looks and a sense of adventure, Goten also inherited Goku’s “intelligence.” Let’s just say this kid’s about as smart as a sack of bricks. He’s even known for mispronouncing one of the most famous moves in DB, the “KameHameha” as “KameKameha.” The lack of smarts also probably due to the fact that Chi-Chi didn’t put nearly as much pressure on him to study as she did with Gohan, and also wasn’t as protective. Because Goku was dead for a while early on in his life (he had been killed fighting Cell), Goten had to learn to fight from Gohan, and even his mom! Goten I think really looked up to Trunks, even with only the slight age difference, and he was also quite fond of Gohan. For instance, even though everyone though Gohan’s “Great Saiyaman” outfit was gay, Goten thought it was the coolest thing in the world because it was his big brother wearing the costume.
………Goten is all-around a really funny kid, even though he does have temper tantrums every now and then if he doesn’t get his way… that’s a little trick of his! He gets in trouble, he kicks butt.
……..Lots of people seem to have something against GT, but I personally think it’s pretty cool. The only thing wrong with it is that for an unnecessarily large chunk of the series, all you see is Goku, Pan, and Trunks, fighting all these lame bad guys and finding the Black Star Dragon Balls, and you rarely see any of the other characters during this time. Anyway Goten is pretty cool in GT, but I am just disappointed with how he plays such a small role. He was originally supposed to go along with Trunks and Goku into outer space to find the Dragon Balls, but Pan hit the “blast off” switch before Goten could return from his phone call, therefore taking his place. Grrr, sometimes that Pan really gets on my nerves. So, anyway, the only time he really gets to fight is during the whole Juunanagou shpeel, and when Bebi comes to earth and starts possessing people while on a date with Paresu (I’ve seen her called Palace and Paris before, too, but looks better!), a naïve young girl that Goten had been pestering to go on a date with. The chick does’nt even know how to eat ice cream, or what a hamburger is. But Goten doesn’t mind this he thinks it’s adorable! We all know what he was after, though. ^_^
……..Ahem… back to the Bebi fight. The funny part is at the beginning, when a couple of these possessed guys gather round Goten and try to attack him. So Goten, not being able to resist the chance to show of his studliness , threw Paresu into the air, knocked out all the possessed guys, and finished just in time to catch Paresu. He also saved her life, when Bebi was about to hurt her while he was arguing with Mr. Satan on who was going to fight him. He looked over and felt that Bebi was going to attack her, so he leaps over, gives him a flying kick to the head, and knocks him across the street and into some store on the side of the road. Yeah! Go Goten! For a while he almost defeats Bebi, of course, but he still ends up being possessed by Bebi through a cut in his arm, just like Trunks was during one of the first encounters with Bebi. ……..So basically, Goten doesn’t play a big role in GT. He’s still the same fun-large-appetid (is that a word? Hah!) kid that we knew in DBZ, although a lot more lazy and whiny. But when it comes time to get serious, he does, and can really kick more butt then you’d expect from a slacker.
