For those who don't know of him, his first name is 'The'. The Sandman is Steven Abott's alias. Sandy was created during the time that Abott spent as part of a comedy group which also consisted of fellow Good News Week star, Mikey Robins.
During his standup gigs that he did in the 80's, The Sandman often toured with fellow comedian Paul Livingston and his character Flacco. Sandy got his break when, Mikey Robins got him a spot on the Australian radio station Triple J as a star on the Brekkie show.
The Sandman put his wit to use and came up with a sitcom which he performed over the radio each morning. The show was called 204 Bell Street and it was about a man -the sandman- who had to deal with living in a share house while trying to find his feet at the same time. With the many scenarios that came up on Bell Street, the show gathered a following and if one day went by without an episode, listeners would ring up and want to know why. 204 Bell Street ended late 2000, when Sandman left the radio station.
In 1998 the Sandman joined his JJJ Brekkie show co-stars Mikey Robins and Paul McDermott on their TV show Good News Week and became a regular, moving with the show when it transferred to Channel 10 in 1999.
