Guide to all that is Smash Bros. Melee!!!

Yu huh, that's right I'm gonna cover everything you have to do in 1P in SSBM and if I feel like it a character guide. So let's get to it.

Classic mode

This really shouldn't be to much trouble considering that the only reason you need to play this is to beat it with all the characters to get a few secret ones. So just play it on very easy so you don't get any trouble out of it. This thing is very random so I can't give you an in-depth walktrhough for it. You'll fight a bunch of random characters, but I hope you can deal with them on a very easy difficulty. Also you will fight some designated characters of sorts. You'll fight a metal character, a giant character, a team of characters, and a pair of them.
You'll first fight the pair which is two random characters that you need to get rid of. You'll also have your own partner who's probably at level 9 since it kicks their asses. So your partner will make quick work of them but still they shouldn't be at a great difficulty.
Next you'll have to fight a random giant character. It can be anywhere from Jigglypuff to Bowser, but you'll be given two extra helpers so it'll last only two second as long as you help out.
Now you'll have to face a team of a certain character. You'll have to fight about 20 of these; all of which are at about 300% damage so just do heavy attacks and they'll be blasted away. The only problem here is you'll have trouble not getting a Stale Moves award.
Now let's move on to the only mini-game that's the same with every character: Race to the Finish. The idea of this is different from the original plan. It's a big sidescroller with plenty of moves to make. There's more then one finish but the idea is to go to the farthest door as possible within the time limit to get some lottery spending money. Also there's a trophy on the ground you can pick up along the way. Well the track's really just jumping skill, and of course remember to run, not walk, by tapping the stick forward. When you come to the 3 way section, take the top if you don't want to fall down a hole to easily. Try to move as fast as you can and if you don't make it to the end don't worry. So far I haven't either, but the best person for the job is Falco.
Next is the metal character. Luckily they've made them a lot lighter then the metal mario in the original SSBM. So whoever it is still takes a wad of damage before you can successfully get it off the platform, but not as much. Also they fall a lot faster so you have a chance of them simply messing up when they could have made it.
Then there's the master hand. It's a classic character and looks a helluva lot better. I'm gonna make a list of the moves it does and how to avoid them. By the way, the way you beat this guy is to attack him till his hit points go to 0% and he explodes. Here's his moves:

Knuckle Sandwhich: He'll make a fist and hover above the arena for a few seconds then come down on you. Dash around and he'll miss.

Finger Lasers: He'll start wiggling his fingers and they'll sparkle. Then a blue laser will rake the ground from each finger. Stay under the back of the hand and you'll find it easier to dodge them.

Iron Grip: Two pulses of blue light will come from him and his palm will face the screen. Stay away from him because he's gonna try to grab you. If he does and you don't try to get out by rotating the control stick he'll squeeze you hard 3 times then throw you.

Ground Slap: He'll fly up into the air then come down and slap you into the ground. You'll have little tiume to react but what you do is do a double jump before he gets even with you on the 2D movement. There are very similar moves like this that require the same form of dodging.

Drill: He'll start rotating fly up then fall on you and start doing a multiple hit drill kind of thing. Put your shields upif your slow or can't move in time. If your fast: run.

Missles: He'll point two fingers out like a pretend gun and start to glow. A few second later he'll fire 2-6 shots. Fox and Falco's reflector can reflect these, and Ness's PSI magnet can absorb them. If you're not using either just put up your shield or keep moving so it'll miss.

Kick Tackle: He'll walk along the ground on two fingers and if he hits and stuns you he'll kick you with one of his fingers.

That's all I got for The Master Hand. You'll also play the break the targets mini-game in this, and there's an individual walkthrough for it farther down.

Adventure Mode

This is a cool twist to the Classic Mode and is a lot more entertaining. You may as well set this on very easy since the only point of it is to get some secret stuff, but I'll still write some stratedgies to the characters since there's nothing random on this.

Stage 1: Mushroom Kingdom
Ever played some 16-bit and down Mario games? Well this is what they're like, and you have to go through a level of one. It's not to difficult just head right and jump over any obstacles in your way. Items will be littered all over the ground so pick up some to your choosing. There'll be some enemies from Mario games around, too. Only Koopas, Goombas, and the different variations of Koopas. All of them have HP like the Master Hand except it's not displayed and it's only around 20%. So a smash attack will simply get rid of them. The Koopas will leave their shells behind so you can plow through some enemies with them. Near the end of the level you'll jump up on platform, and Yoshis will start to fall from the sky. This was the fight that was being lead up to, and it's definatley not hard. The Yoshis are at a high handy cap and fly off from any strong attack. After you destroy about 15 of them you can precede past a couple more Goombas and the like to the finish line. If you want to get a secret character real quick cross the finish line when the second reads 2. None of the other digits matter just make sure it looks like this: ##:#2:##. You'll see what the signifigance of this is next.
Next you'll enter a battle, and if you crossed with the finish line when the second read 2 you'll see a cutscene of Mario jumping then Luigi bouncing off his head. If this happens then you'll fight Luigi next. If not you'll fight Mario. So you'll enter the Peach's Castle and you'll be fighting Peach and Mario/Luigi. This can be dangerous if they turn you into a punching bag. Peach should be your first target since she has some awkward moves and will have more difficulty attacking you. Watch out for her flame kick thing, it hurts bad. Well get rid of Peach and go to work on Mario. Mario's fast and knows how to throw. Also it looks like he's gotten some martial arts lessons or something between games. So he's much more likely to kick your ass. Just beat him up is all I can say.
Stage 2: Kongo Jungle
Donkey Kong Stage complete with Donkey Kongs.
First fight consists of two 2 DKs that've been hit with a long term poisonous mushroom, they're small. High attack don't work, but man all you need to do is hit them hard and they're gone.
Now we've got a super sized DK. This guy's hard to move but when he gets enoguh damage he's a goner because of the cramped stage he's on. Try knocking him off on the left side so he'll get swept down current.
Stage 3: Underground Maze
Zelda themed level. I guess this is supposed to be like Dampe's Tomb. Well you'll start out at the dead end of a tunnel with 6 minutes to find the Triforce before you lose or something. Go to the end of the tunnel and you'll be in a big vertical room with more tunnels branching off it. Drop down and go into the tunnel to the left since it branches off less and the Triforce is usually there so you can finish quick. If you come into a purple tinted room with the master sword in the middle you'll have to fight Link. If you can manage to clear the room without touching the floor by triple jumping Link won't appear. One of the rooms will have the Triforce in the middle instead of the master sword so make sure not to jump that one. If its not in the left side of the maze head back to the big verticle room and enter a tunnel at the far bottom or top.
After you find the Triforce you'll enter a battle with Zelda. She's not particularly fast and it takes her a while to turn into Sheik. So just whack her before she can turn into Sheik and beat the crap out of her and knock her off. Nothing to it.
Stage 4: Brinstar
Straight out fight against Samus. I'm not really sure what to say she flies pretty far for someone who wear armor and the acid always takes her out.
Next you've gotta escape from Zebes Super Metroid style. All you've basicley gotta do is jump up from platform to platform until you reach the top. A crappy jumper is gonna have to apply all 3 jumps to make it up, but every character is capable of maknig it up. When you reach the last room look to the sides and any trophies that you see then jump on the circular yellow thing (metroid elevator).
Stage 5: Green Greens
From Zebes to the Pop Star, and lamely enough the first thing you do is fight Kirby. Just Kirby. He flies far and really can't do anything tricky. Charge up a forward smash and when he walks within range blow him away. If that didn't kill him another heavy hit will.
It's... more... Kirbies... lotsa Kirbies, but just like the Yoshi team they can't take much damage, though a little more. So focus using strong ariel attacks and smashes.
Kirby got in the yeast. So just knock him off since he flies just as far as if he was small.
Stage 6: Corneria
First off you gotta fight Fox and he flies away easily. Just run at him do a dive attack and before he can land hit him again then do a smash or throw him off. Done deal.
Fox knows your to good so he called in his friends to kill both of you. Well you gotta fight Fox again, or Falco if you unlocked him. This time their even easier to knock off so just do it.
Stage 7: Pokemon Stadium
Yay, ye gotta fight them thar pokeeman cridders. It's another team thing so they fly away easy. Plus there's pokeballs falling all over the place so it gets even easier.
Stage 8: F-Zero
About time there was another platform thing. Your gonna be running down a track, and I do suggest you run, everytime you hear the beeping and see the exclamation point jump on the closest pink platform you see. In just a sec a bunch of F-Zero style cars are gonna go by at mach 2. After they pass continue running. Along the way there's a gonna be a drop off. You can stand close to this and use it as cover from the cars since they'll fly over you. Next your gonna have to cross a gap. If the cars go over while your crossing staying on the pink platforms will be enough protection, but make sure you stop. It's a all out run after that so just run and you're finished.
Stage 9: Onett
Ness is up next. Three of him actually. This could provide some difficulty especially on higher levels. Make sure to use attacks that clear crowds like downward smashes. Try to get the Nesses hit by the cars that fly through the lower street as well.
Stage 10: Icicle Mountain
An automatically scrolling verticle stage is up next. The camera scrolls faster if you land on a platform above view. Just use triple jumps throughout the stage, but don't go to high above the camera or it'll be counted as a knock-out and you'll fly into the distance. Killing a Topi and a Polar Bear as you make your way up will give you an extra bonus so try doing that.
Eventually you'll meet two pairs of Ice Climbers, but since the computer cannot comprehend their emmense power you won't be to bad off. Make sure to go for the lead climber so you don't have to mess with and actual 4 enemies.
Stage 11: Battlefield
Now it's a wire frame team in low gravity. Low gravity meaning you weigh the same but you can jump higher and the wire frames fly farther. These things are real stupid and would KO if you slapped them.
Now you gotta fight Metal Mario, and if you unlocked Luigi Metal Luigi as well. Emediately start an upward smash when you start and when the bros. drop on you unleash it. Now it's a beat 'em up since they lapse in and out of activeness. They'll walk around do a combo then walk around some more. If you didn't know already metal characters don't move very easily so you'll have to do a large ammount of damage to them to knock them off.
Stage 12: Final Destination
No Master Hand this time. Just Bowser. Well he's bigger then usual but it just makes him slower and a little heavier. So run at him jump and do a downward attack to start it off then just pound him. He really doesn't have an opening to attack at all so you're extremely safe. When you finally can knock him off your done. The game will end you'll see a Bowser trophy fly away and see yourself fall into blackness and become a trophy as well. The credits will roll then you'll see your character in action with a neat looking pose at the end. Then you'll get a trophy of the character you played as and any secret characters you unlocked will challenge you now.

Events

In a different section of 1P Mode there's premeditated matches that lead up to some secrets and just give you something to do. I'll as best as I can which probably isn't much but there'll be some wisdom somewhere in here.
Work in progress

Super Smash Brothers Melee Event Guide

By: BiGT

#1- Trouble King
Not that bad, just smack bowser around a bit, then do a smash attack to finish him. Rinse and Repeat as necessary.
#2- Lord of the Jungle
Careful not to fall off, you're the big DK. Pretty much jsut slap the floor a bunch, and then smash the little monkey to kingdom come.
#3- Bomb-fest
Bowser was my best pick for this because he's really hard to knock off. Strategy wise, use the motion censor bombs and try to get a smack or two in when you're not being bomb-arded (excuse my poor usage of puns).
#4- Dino-wrangling
Go with Captain Falcon, and use his Up+B attack. When yoshi gets to about 150%, its smash time.
#5- Spare Change
Use the bat (Side+A)! Smash him as many times as you can, another good way to get coins is to position yourself on a ledge, when Falcon jumps up, do a load of combos and then follow after him. All the coins fall on you!
#6- Kirbys on Parade
Shouldn't it be Kirbies? Oh well, Link's spin attack will make quick work of the little guys, but you might have to work a bit because they're a mite evasive.
#7- Pokemon Battle
No particular character works well on this one, basiclly, chuck all the Pokeballs you can at Pikachu, and hope you get the good ones.
#8- Hot Date on Brinstar
You start out beat up in this one, so use it to your advantage: Samsh Attack like crazy. Also, throw the items at Samus, and watch out for her grappler beam.
#9- Hide 'n' Sheik
Ness works well for this one, just use the bat when you see a Sheik. Warp Stars and good timing also make this a quick event.
#10- All-Star Match 1
Samus all the way for this one, her quick combos and Screw Attack are extrealmy effective against those dumb Mario Characters :)
#11- King of the Mountain
All you really have to do is jump, but if you want KO's, use Link's spin attack.
#12- Seconds, Anyone?
One smash attack from DK and C. Falcon is outta there.
#13- Yoshi's Egg
Grab the egg and try not to get to beat up. If you do get smacked around quite a bit, put the egg down, and get KOed. Then when you return, pick it up as soon as possible.
#14- Trophy Tussle 1
Fox is your man if you want the Goomba trophy; Get all of the other players on one side, and then just tap 'A' a whole bunch, when they're really beat up, do a Smash Attack, repeat, and you win!
#15- Girl Power
I used Link, but any middle range character should owrk for this one, nothing special, its just all the fighters are girls.
#16- Kirby's Air-raid
Stand by a star (they won't take it), and wait for a group to walk near you, when they do, grab the star and boom.
#17- Bounty Hunters
Not to hard, let Falcon do the work for you, when Boswer is getting kinda beat up, dash in and Smash him to beat this event.
#18- Link's Adventure
Dark Link's to quick for smash attacks so rely on your spin attack, and charged arrows from a distance. Dark Link also has a mean preferance for combos, so don't stay to close to long.
#19- Peach's Peril
Basic advice for this one: always keep yourself between Bowser and Peach, thus you take most of the damage, and Peach can last longer.
#20- All-Star Match 2
Bowser works well with this one, use his standard A attack and an occasion fire blast to keep things interesting.
#21- Ice Breaker
If you haven't figured out by now, Nana is the pink one. Use Ness's bat to smack them appart, and then go after the pink one twards the edge.
#22- Super Mario 128
This one's so easy its boring. Stand in the middle of the arena with DK, and slap the floor. See what I mean, its not even fun. NOTE: The original GameCube presentation showed 128 little Marios running around, so you can bet that's where this came from.
#23- Slippy's Invention
This one was kinda hard, so don't feel bad if it takes you a few tries. One was to beat the masters of speed, now invisible, is to position yourself on a side of the Great Fox's fin, and swipe blindly with the laser sword. If you can't get one of those, get to the same spot and use Falcon's B attack.
#24- The Yoshi Herd
This one could take a while too, but here goes; Use a combination of DK's Up+B move and his Side+A attacks to take the yoshis out.
#25- Gargantuans
For big DK, smack him a bit, and then run to the other side, he falls off by himself offten enough by himself you don't really have to do much. For Peach, DK will take care of her automatically, and Mario won't last but a second.

Secrets

We all like this game for multiplayer and party value right? So secret stages and characters are always a welcome, and here I have how to get all the secrets in the game. There's usually more then one way to get most secrets I'll give both and maybe the easiest way to get to that.
Characters
Dr. Mario
1.) Play 100 vs. mode matches.
2.) Play and beat Adventure or Classic Mode as Mario on any difficulty with any number of lives, but with out continuing if you lose.
I suggest the latter since playing 100 Vs. mode matches takes to long and loosely beating 1P mode just slides. It's a given. After meeting on of these requirements Dr. Mario will challenge you at Peach's Castle playing his cooky theme. Beat him to unlock him.

Jigglypuff
1.) Beat Adventure or Classic Mode as any character on any difficulty with any number of lives. Hell, you can even continue how can you not at least get challenged by it?
I guess they just wanted to keep Jigglypuff for nostalgia because he still sucks. Same drill, you meet the requirements, he'll challenge you, beat him, and you'll be able to play as him.

Luigi
1.) In the first part of Adventure Mode clear the finish line when the last second reads 2. No other seconds matter so it just needs to look like this: ##:#2:##. You'll know it's done right because you'll see a cutscene next of Mario jumping then Luigi bouncing off him. When you complete adventure mode Luigi will challenge you. Win and you got another secret character.

Marth
1.) Use all of the original 14 characters once in one of these categories: versus mode, Adventure Mode, or Classic Mode. Once you do so Marth will do the whole challenge thing.

Mewtwo
Let's thank the loser who found out how to get this guy first. Either play 700 Vs. Mode rounds with at least one human player in each of them, or have 20 hours in your versus records. The easiest method to get Mewtwo is to set up a Vs. Mode match with a human player with no time limit, turn the tv off, and keep the game on for a day. Come back after at least 20 hours, end the match, and Mewtwo will challenge you.

Pichu
1.) Beat event #37 (Legendary Pokemon).
2.) Play 200 Mode Matches.

Roy
Beat adventure/classic mode without continuing as Marth to get challenged by Roy.

Ganondorf
Beat event #29 (Triforce Gathering) and Ganondorf'll challenge you.

Falco
1.) Play 300 vs. mode battles.
2.) Beat 100 man melee. It's hard but a lot quicker. The best way to do this is sit in the middle of the bottom platform and use Donkey Kong's down and B move till you complete your objective.

Young Link
1.) Play 500 Vs. mode matches.
2.)Beat classic mode as Link, Zelda, and 8 other characters and he'll challenge you.

Mr. Game & Watch
He'll be the last character you get for you have to beat classic mode, adventure mode, or break the targets with the other 24 characters for him to challenge you.

Arenas
There's a plethera multiplayer stages to unlock. Most you've seen while playing the events or 1P Mode, but here's you use them at your will.

Brinstar Depths
To unlock this freakin cool level you have to play 50 vs. mode matches. Not so bad compared to the others.

Fourside
Play 100 vs. mode matches.

Big Blue
Play 150 vs. mode matches.

Poke Floats
200.

Mushroom Kingdom II
Get the Birdo Trophy to unlock this one.

Flat Zone
Beat Classic Mode with Mr. Game & Watch.

Battlefield
Beat All-Star Mode with any character for this stage.

Final Destination
Beat all 51 event matches and you unlock this very original level.

Dream Land
Beat break the targets with all 25 characters to unlock a classic SSB level.

Yoshi's Island
You have to get 1300 ft. or more in the home run contest to get this classic level. The way I did this was by using Yoshi. Start off, grab the bat, and start doing downward ariel downward attacks. They do about 30% if you do them right so try doing it about 4 times and do a smash attack with the bat to get 1300+ feet. Try it a couple times and you'll get it.

Kongo Jungle
Another classic level. You have to beat the 15 minute melee to get this. An easy way is to stand in the bottom center of the stage and use DKs hand slap for 15 minutes. Always gotta be cheap...

Unlocking more Events
When you start you only have about 30 events to complete out of 51. By doing certain requirments you'll be able to unlock more events however. I'm actually not to sure what the requirements are to get the rest of the events. Try getting all the characters and beating all the 1P stuff with all of them to unlock more. Event #51 can only be unlocked be beating the other 50 events.

Miscellaneous
So what the hell are these? I dunno so they're here.

Sound Test
Ah, the days of old when you only had to do... something easier... to get the sound test. Now you gotta unlock all the other multiplayer levels first then beat event #51.

All-Star Mode
Simple, just get all 25 characters.

Random Stage Switch
After you have most of the multiplayer arenas this option will appear which allows you to leave the multiplayer stages you don't like out of random select.
