Mario is probably the most popular Nintendo character there is, his
popularity has even made him Nintendo's mascot. Many have played his
games
maybe as the first game they ever played, and that's easily made
possible.
Mario has probably the most game titles out of any SSB player out
there. In
fact since I don't have much more to say about him let's go to that.
Mario's starring roles:
Donkey Kong
This was the first game Mario appeared in. The game was a 4 level one
screen
game where Mario had to make his way through a construction site
chasing a
gorilla (soon to become famous as well) named Donkey Kong to rescue a
kidnapped girl named Pauline (also to become... well she appears in
other
games). The game involved walking across girders, climbing ladders and
jumping over barrels. The game got a lot more complex after the popular
first level. This probably was a very challenging arcade game for the
time
but after finally playnig it as a mini game on Donkey Kong 64 I found
it
rather easy but still fun. (Arcade 1981) (NES 1986)
Donkey Kong Jr.
The sequel to Donkey Kong. This was a lot like the first exept the
characters where switched around, and it had some more features like
climbing from vine to vine jumping, off springs, and stuff like that.
In
this game Mario really plays the role as DK keeping DK imprisoned at
the end
of the one screen level. The character you played as was Donkey Kong
Jr. I
didn't mention before but he was also present in the first DK but more
as a
background object then anything else. (Arcade 1982)
Mario Bros.
This was a very fun game and was included as mini-game in many other
Mario
titles. You still played on a one screen level and the design was the
same
every level you advanced. The enemies however did change. The way you
played
this was there would be severel platforms that you could jump to and
enemies
would ome ouf of a pair of pipes at the top corners of the level. What
you
tried to do was the platform under the enemy to make them fall down
then run
up and kick it away. After you defeated all the enemies in the level
you
advanced to the next. I'm not sure how many levels this game had but
there
where more then 14... (Arcade 1983) (NES 1986)
Super Mario Bros.
One of the first games of the NES and [robably the msot well revieved.
So
I've heard everyone loved this game. It was a side scroller that
involved
jumping on enemies, going down pipes, avoiding cliffs, and eventually
getting to one of the 8 castles and defeating King Koopa, the new and
soon
to be famous villain also known as Bowser, to save Princess Toadstool,
who
also became famous and in later years was given the name Princess
Peach.
(NES 1985)
Super Mario Bros. 2
This was originally some game called Doki Doki Panic and I have no clue
where it came from. All I know is it was almost exactly like this game
exept
you played a bunch of Arabian guys. The original Mario 2 was only
released
in Japan because Nintendo of America or someone thought the game would
be
too hard for American gamers to beat. The real Mario 2 did appear
however in
the SNES game Super Mario All-Stars titled the Lost Levels.(Nes 1988)
Super Mario Bros. 3
This was a highly anticipated sequel seeing as people had heard in
advance
about all the cool stuff Mario and Luigi could do. Now you could play
mini-games to earn extra lifes or power ups to put in your new
inventory.
Also this was the first game where Mario could get a power up to fly
with.
In this it was the leaf that turned Mario into Racoon Mario. This was
an
exeptionally long game and didn't use the existing save technology
which
sucked since this game had 8 worlds and about 10 levels to each. You'd
have
to leave this thing running for days, months, even years until you beat
it
finally. (NES 1990)
Super Mario Land
A game that was probably one of the first titles for Game Boy I don't
know
to much about it seeing as I lost this the first few months I got it.
The
dot crawl was horrible on the original GB so I wouldn't of gotten far
anyway. It pretty much was a game using the same graphics as the first
SMB.
(Game Boy 1989)
Dr. Mario
This was just one of the many versions of Tetris around -_-;;.(NES)
1990)
Super Mario World
This was the first game I ever got and I think it was great. It had
some
simularities with Mario 3 exept with better graphics and just better
levels
and more secrets and stuff. There where tons of features i just don't
feel
like writing so much about these games anymore this should be
sufficient.
(SNES 1991)
Super Mario All-Stars
This was a collection of Super Mario Bros. 1-3 It also included the
Japanese
Mario 2 which was called The Lost Levels. There where however some
minor
changes to these games a save feature added and improved graphics.
(SNES
1992)
Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars
This was Mario's first Role Playing Game. This game had a very advanced
story lots of text and it was in 3D. There's not much to say about this
game
but it really is good and probably the best game ever made. (SNES 1996)
Super Mario 64
This was released a little after the Nintendo 64 came out and showed
exactly
what the N64 was capable of. This game was in full 3D with an
idependant
camera and tons of moves for Mario to use. The type of engine this game
used
set up games like Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong 64. Mario had to go to
about
6 different rather large levels and collect the power stars in each
one.
(N64 1997)
Mario Party
A virtual board game with tons of mini-games was what this game was
popular
for. (N64 199?)
Paper Mario
I haven't gotten around to playing this game so I can't say much about
it
besides it's the sequel to Mario RPG.
BIGT Adds: Paper Mario was originaly entitled 'Mario Story'(Theres my 2 cents) (N64 2000)
Super Mario Advance
A remake of Mario 2 with a multiplayer and Mario Bros. added. (Game Boy
Advance 2001)
Whew, finally done with that. Now on to the moves and stuff we know of
from
footage we have of Smash Bros. Melee. Keep in mind these are not the
real
names jsut something I gave them.
The Moves
Cape Reflect: Mario pulls out his cape from Super Mario World and
reflects
energy attacks supposedly. This may also be an item that can be used by
any
character, but it seems to fit Mario best.
Fireball: A move from the early Mario games. Mario hurls a fireball at
an
opponent. The fireball will bounce as it moves forward.
Fighter stance: Mario's fighter stance has returned from the original
Smash
Bros. Doing this will have Mario stand still and grow to 4 times his
size
like he got a mushroom then shrink back. It even has the choppy
animation
like in the old 2D games.
Punch: OMG he can punch! The old one-two maybe even a kick's in there.
High Kick: They may have just changed the animation a little and this
is
Mario's 3 hit combo from the original SSB or Mario 64.
