Bullsharks
Ever wonder what inspired the novel "Jaws"? I did, and let me tell you, I was quite surprised when I found out. It was the Bullshark. Nothing near a Great White at all.
The Bullshark is smaller and you would think it would be less dangerous. Not!!! The inspiration came from a shark that swam from the Atlantic into a fresh water
river in New England. An old man that served in the Navy was out on the banks of the river and saw a dark shadow that appeared to him to be a shark. He told
authorities there was a shark in the river but no one believed him. Later that afternoon, a young boy who just finished his job at a factoring went with his friends to
swim in the river, seeing as how it was quite hot. The boy was attacked and died in the water. Police and citizens went to the river with guns to kill the shark that did
this. Two men got into a small boat and went to look for the boy, one of the spotted him and got in the water to get the body and no sooner had he gotten the boy
out and was about to get out himself, he was attacked and died in the hospital.
Don't believe that a shark can swim in fresh water? The Bullshark can. It is one of only a few sharks that can go from salt to fresh with no problem. These sharks have
been found in the Amazon river, and various other rivers, including the one in New England. Let's go swimming!!!!!
Anyway, here is a picture of a Bullshark.
I am looking for more Bullshark pictures.
My information on this may not be accurate. I have read so many articles on it that there's no telling what the truth really is.
