Personality: Easy going and sweet natured, Kestrel is a clever, personable and charming man. Loyal to a fault with his friends and devoted to his duty as a Roug. However, Kestrel is still grieving the loss of his wife and child. A very deep and very real sorrow that is very much a part of his every waking moment. The pain may have dimmed somewhat over the last 3 years. But it is still rather strong. At least he's beginning to find life is actually worth living again instead of just enduring.
    Flaws:
Nightmares: While he doesn't have them as often as he once did, Kestrel does still suffer from the occasional nightmare of the day his wife was killed.
Mild Phobia: A vague fear of someday losing his Gusty to events he has no control over also.
Low Self-Esteem: Given his father's treatment as a child, Kestrel does not have a very high self esteem. Though with help from Gusty, and his successes to date, he is starting to build up some confidence in himself and his skills.
Intollerance: Due to the circumstances surrounding his wife's death, Kestrel has little tolerance or love for Dark Wyn. Wanting to wipe their kind off the face of Uen before others suffer the pain he does.

Ambidextrious, Animal Magnetism, Common Sense, Crack Rider, Destiny, double jointed, Light Sleeper, Time Sense.
Quirks: Always wears an earring in his left ear, keeps some of his hair swept back in a jeweled hairclip, Keeps his hair long, dresses in high quality clothes, carries miniature picture of his wife with him. He combs his hand through his hair when he is nervous. Twirls hair around finger when concentrating on things.

Enemies: While he doesn't realize it yet, the very incident which cost him  his wife, also won Kestrel the hatred of several unaffliated wyn. Seeing him as a symbol of the opression of wyn in Uen.
Allies:While he might not be able to depend on his father or mother for much, Kestrel knows he can always
count on his sister, Captain Osprey of the WildCats company. Also, Kestrel can turn to his older brother,
Lord Falcon if he needs help. Though given their past history, Kestrel only turns to Falcon when he has tried all other avenues.
Mercanaries: Given that Kestrel's younger sister is the captain of the WildCats Merchanary company has it's benefits. Thanks to this connection, Kestrel can sometimes look to them for aid.
Nobles: Born and raised in high society, Kestrel knows how to move in these circles. And is familiar with it's bureacracy. And though he gave up his titles and any inheritance when he bonded, Kestrel still has
contacts and friends within Uen's high society.

History
General History: The eldest of three boys, and the Lord of MoringGrove Manor, Reen inherited control of one of the major nobles of Rin Caad. While this may afford him some power within Rin Caad, Reen has little real power where it truly counts, Pallahade and the court of the Czar. A harsh, blunt man, Reen has certain set views about the world and little imagination. Amoung his views are what a 'real man' and a 'real woman' should be. As such, he has seriously allienated his two youngest children, Kestrel and  Osprey. In fact, the only member of his family he has managed not to alienate in some form or another is his wife Rosalee, whom he loves deeply and upon whom he dotes.

Rosalee, the daughter of a minor noble house of Rin Caad grew up spoiled and cosseted her entire life. An incredibly beautiful woman in her youth, she married Reen more for his higher position than for love of the Noble Lord. Though she did soon grow to love Reen as deeply as he loves her.  Rosalee dearly loves her three children, but is more interested in her pampered life, and indulgent lifestyle than rearing children. She might have left the care of her children to a constantly changing parade of Nannies, but man, her parties are the talk of the town. And only the 'right' people are invited to these parties.

Personal History: Born to one of Rin Caad's high noble houses on the 20th SR of 82, Kestrel grew up with many of the advantages of the rich. Rosalee his mother made sure that her children had the best of everything that money could buy, ignoring her children's desire for a mother more so she could indulge in her pleasures.

Young Falcon, Kestrel's elder brother by 6 years, resembles his father strongly, with brown hair, brown eyes and his father's stocky build and plain looks. Having two younger siblings whom look so much more beautiful is a sore point to Falcon. A bullying, envious boy when they were growing up, there was no love lost between the brothers.  Though now as a husband and father, Falcon is starting to try and make amends with his little brother.

Of his siblings, Kestrel gets along best with his younger sister Osprey. Knowing that with her at least, he can always look to for help when he needs it. And she can always look to him.

Kestrel's father Reen was always heavy handed and strict with Kestrel, the man has very strong and unshakeable ideas of what a real man is supposed to be like. Mixed with the fact that he wants his sons to be copies of him. Sons like his eldest, Falcon who, growing up hung on his every word and never questioned him. Something he could parade around to brag about his bedroom prowess. Kestrel had the nerve to resemble his mother. And had the equal nerve to be born with a mind of his own. Intelligent and quick, he loved learning and music. And was well versed in the social graces his mother insisted he learn. In Reen's mind, things that were not fitting for a 'real' man. A 'real' man only need to know enough to sign his own name and have a passing ability to read. A 'real' man didn't care about social graces, he cared about being able to hack and slash enemies with a broad sword in hand. And he was determined to make Kestrel a 'real' man if he had to beat it in him. And Reen never missed an opportunity to let Kestrel know his displeasure with his youngest son. Letting him know he was considered to be less than worthless.

Their weapons master, Andin was under orders to make Kestrel a real man by beating the hack and slash fighting style into Kestrel. But the arms master, knew such a style was unsuited for Kestrel. Knew if the boy was ever in a battle he'd be killed outright trying to fight that way. So in public, he tried teaching Kestrel the hack and slash style, beating the boy into the ground every time and humiliating him in front of the other students as Reen wanted. In private, he taught Kestrel a style more suited to the quick footed, slender boy. He taught Kestrel a swashbuckling style until young Kestrel turned 11. It was then his father learned Andin was teaching Kestrel a style HE hadn't approved. Andin was immediately fired and thrown off Reen's lands. Kestrel was locked in his rooms until his father could think of a proper punishment. Reen settled on banishing Kestrel from their home.

Dragging the boy all the way to Pallahade, he planned on leaving Kestrel in the City Guard. Away from everyone and thing he knew where he wouldn't have any friends at all he could depend on. He forgot to take into account, that despite the fact that Kestrel's hair had started going pre-maturely white at the age of 10, it was still obvious he was to young to be placed in the guard.

Determined to be rid of this unwanted son, Reen decided then to leave young Kestrel with the academy instead. The one real friend Kestrel had growing up was his younger sister Kendra. Now at the academy he didn't even have that friendship with his sister left at home. Removed from all he knew, abandoned by his father, no friends to depend on here, Kestrel felt even more alone, unwanted and worthless than he did at home. It was months before he opened up enough to even marginally trust any of the other students, longer still before he was willing to trust any of the adults. About the only places young Kestrel seemed to come to life was in his classes, his love of learning still as strong as ever. Excelling in his classes, Kestrel slowly began to flourish under the academy's care. Though he never for one moment at the academy believed that he would ever be good enough to bond with a unicorn.  Then at 16, Kestrel got the shock of his life when he bonded to Gusty and finally got up the nerve to ask Ahlaina, a girl in his year group, out. The two soon became inseparable and by the time he was 20 years old and she 21, Kestrel and Ahlaina were married.

7 years later, Kestrel, Ahlaina and her older sister Sora, also in their year group, were riding a border patrol together along with three older roug. Learning the route for the patrol they were taking over from the older roug. When they were flagged down by one of the border towns. The town was having troubles. Someone/s was attacking their village every 4th night. Destroying things, people outside at night disappeared, the few found, their bodies horribly twisted and broken. The only surviver found, his mind gone, a broken teenager who would forever be trapped, left in the state of a 2 year old mind.

Believing that they were dealing with bandits, the roug began tracking the people responsible. 3 days into the search, Ahlaina informed Kestrel that she was pregnant with their second child. Delighted, Sora and Kestrel wanted to inform their leader that night, but Ahlaina convinced them to wait tell morning. An
agreement Kestrel has hated himself for since.

For the next day as they were breaking camp, the group of renegade Wyn they were tracking chose to attack. Before anyone realized what was happening, Ahlaina was killed.

In the battle, Kestrel was nearly killed himself, having the evidence of three paralell scars running down his chest. Saved only because Gusty had grabbed him and pulled him back as the maddened wild cat tried to rip Kestrel's heart out. After the fight was over, and the renegades destroyed, the only thing that kept Kestrel from trying to rejoin Ahlaina in the Light was his bonded Gusty, and the two year old daughter he and Ahlaina had. 2 years later, Kestrel still grieves deeply for Ahlaina and the only ones who know that he lost a child too when Ahlaina died are Sora and their bondeds.

Gusty

Born to the Czar Lake herd, young Gusty was quite happy and content with her life as a wildborn. Her older brother Westwind had gone to the Academy to live though. And she was admittedly curious about what was so special about the academy and the humans. What could induce her big brother to abandon family and herd to go live in Pallahade. Finally, when she was 7 years old, Gusty left her herd to go visit with Westwind. And while she didn't learn why her brother had left his herd to join the academy, she did find her own reason to leave the Czar herd.

A certain tall lean wildborn who'd joined the academy himself. Though to shy to introduce herself to Tide, Gusty decided to remain at the academy and near him. Two years later, Gusty was shocked not only to find herself bonded to Kestrel, but to find that Tide was one of her Cha-mates. A bit more daring now, Gusty began dropping hints and flirted a little with Tide before he finally go the hint and they became mates 3 years later.

Flirtatious and loving, Gusty is a supportive mate obviously very much in love with her Tide and immensely proud of the stallion. A quiet and nurturing mother, Gusty worries and frets over her babies, especially Splash now that her colt Fathom is lost to them. But she tries to keep in mind that little Splash has to make her own way in the world. She just preys to the light regularly that Splash will bond to a better human than Fathom did.

Mated to the wildborn Tide, Gusty is the mother of Fathom (deceased), and Splash. Westwind's younger sister, Gusty is Windblade and Windswept's Aunt.

Her power is the ability to lift and control wind.

STATS, average fighter, HT: l4.3, Female, Pearlescent white with mane and tail streaked green, white horn and hooves. Wildborn to Czar herd, 3 SR  87 ADT first listed 8/2001.
