Firestorm is an extremely handsome and charming stallion with a healthy touch of the mysterious about him to add to his considerable appeal. A law unto himself, where he comes from no one truly knows. One thing is for sure: no other stallion alive has caused such upheavals amoung both wild herds and Roug, and his appearance at the Academy is usually cause for mixed feelings among Roug-loyal unicorns and humans.
Firestorm first came to the attention of the Academy twelve years ago when he quite casually pranced through the front gates and pronounced his arrival in the name of curiosity (in his own wildborn way, of course). His views: the Roug were necessary to the Light's well-being, but he himself had no desire to Bond, nor did he advocate that all unicorns *should* Bond. In fact, he encouraged any of the Academy unicorns who were unhappy with their present path to renounce Rougship and join him as a wildborn. Since then he has visited the Academy several times, and most people have an opinion about his presence, be it resentment (for coaxing Academy 'corns away!) or delight (for promoting a more liberal wildborn attitude). His affair with Shimmer, however, caused quite an uproar and turned many local opinions in his disfavor. He has not been to the Academy since.
Over the years, Firestorm has created his own rag-tag band of misfits with his same pro-human, non-Bonding views. Calling themselves the Renegades, he and his motley crew travel Uen as they please, stealing across human and wildborn territories alike. Sometimes they visit other herds, though they are most often unwelcome, their political and philosophical views seen by most as "corruptive" to wildborn youngsters. Once in a while they wheedle away another new recruit, or are joined by a runaway with similar views. There are even a couple of Academy 'corns in the herd who desired a life away from the Roug but yet could not give themselves to renouncing humans or the Roug purpose. Firestorm is undoubtably the leader of his herd of discards, but it is not unusual for him to wander off by himself from time to time. He always returns to the herd fulltime during the cold seasons, however, when he knows they need him the most. They often winter on the beaches of Aedelfar where it is warm and where they can share space with the somewhat more-liberal-than-usual resident wildborn herd.
For all of his flair and ingenuity, Firestorm is still a wildborn and lacks the ability to articulate himself, with words or thoughts, in as Academy 'corns and Bonded wildborns are able. This is sometimes a cause of frustration for him, especially when communicating with other stallions.
Firestorm's ability is quite powerful: the ability to call a rain of searing fireballs from the sky, striking a target area of up to (but possibly less than, at his command) 200 feet in diameter. They will not hurt him or anyone else who stands at the firestorm's center, though he must take care as the fire will damage its targets indiscriminantly. The storm may last as long as he likes, with a physical cost to his being. He has never tested its absolute limit, but a ten minute attack is quite exhausting.
