Ember
Ember, is a beautiful little filly born with her sire's graceful build and her mother's colouring. Born to a wildborn Academy mare and a long-legged Academy stallion, Ember's dam died not long after she went into labour, due to a strange complication in the pregnancy. Only through Kenyon's aid in the delivery was Ember able to survive. Nurtured alongside the equally dam-less Memory, her closest childhood friend and still-confidante, the foals were often seen tagging alongside the old stablemaster during their early years, and shared the collective "motherhood" of all of the resident Academy mares. Ember, especially, was so close to Kenyon that unlike Memory she refused all attempts to encourage her to nurse from any of her "mother mares", submitting only to a bottle feeding from the aged stablemaster himself! Even now, old enough to know better, Ember still considers him her family, and holds a special place in her heart for the man.
While Ember is among the more popular of the younger fillies (perhaps because of her pretty looks!), her closest friendship will always be with Memory, though she is at a stage where is sometimes embarrassed by his sometimes...effeminate nature. But the two youngsters have always trusted each other implicitly, and Ember knows she can always count on Memory, even if she sometimes abuses their friendship. For his part, Memory cherishes their friendship on any account, and is certainly her best "girlfriend", despite his sex. If he didn't have Ember, who would he tell about his teeny little crush on Splash? And, truthfully, Ember enjoys having Memory's friendship all to herself...even if he is kind of babyish sometimes.
Ember has her sire's sweet easy-going nature and is extremely bright with a head for figures and a passion for mysteries. Outgoing and popular, she is often concerned with her "status" among her peers though would never admit it to anyone but Memory. Beneath her gentle exterior, however, lurks her mother's fiery and selfish temper. One mistimed word and without warning she will lash out with words, teeth or hooves.
Ember's favorite hobby is running and with practice she has become quite fast...though it still takes her some work to catch up with the older colts. Still, in a few years who knows how fast she could go, and with her beautiful smooth gait she is sure to delight her bonded when the Light decides to choose for her.
Ember, like her dam, has a fire based power. She can't create fire, but she can control it. As her skill over her talent increases with practice, she should be able to make it burn as hot as a forge or dampen its heat to a gentle warmth. While controlling the heat levels, she also can control the size of the flame, meaning that she could make a candle flame that burned with the heat of a bonfire and a bonfire that burned with very little heat at all. She can even put a small fire out. She is currently experimenting with the length of time she can exert this control, but still requires several years of practice. It's a highly adaptable skill and her teachers are working with her in a variety of practical situations so that she can explore the various applications for her talent. One of the control exercises they have her work on is the controlled formation of shapes within the flames, with which she entertains her friends.
