CLOAK FISH

Cloak Fish, named for the membrane stretching between its ten limbs dwell in the deeper parts of the ocean off of Isod's Tip. The creatures swim in schools of about 15 to 20. They have an arrow shaped headed of hard bone which, if cornered, they attack with by propelling themselves into the side of their tormentor.

Normally a uniform white, light or dark gray, with their membrane a darker shade, one of this creature's means of defense, and of hunting is the ability to change the color of it's skin to match the ground around it. It's other means of defense is an ability to squirt a small cloud of ink into the water, and it's beak like mouth found between it's many limbs.

The cloak fish move about the sea bed with it's flexible limbs, using the suckers on the ends to grab hold of food which is quickly torn to bits by it's beak. The cloak fish moves by allowing it's limbs to float open, then it snaps them shut, pushing it quickly through the water thanks to the membranes.

Cloak fish reach a maximum of 1'6" to 2' in total with no discernible way to tell the male and female apart based on size or color alone. Completely carnivorous, they feed on other fish and on any carrion they may manage to find.

In early autumn, the females and males pair off. Finding a suitable place, the female lays 6 to 8 eggs then abandons the eggs. The male remains behind to fertilize and protect them. He does this by covering the eggs with his own body to hide them from sight, blending in with the sand. Eating only whatever small fish comes within reach. After three weeks, the eggs hatch and the male also abandons the young to whatever fate awaits them, rejoining the adult cloak fish back in the deeper waters.
