Introduction: Mythology

In Varula, the world in which Cira lives, mythological and godly figures are highly regarded and are kept in close faith. There are thousands of figures that the people of this world look up to, but two main figures are referenced to in this tale. The first being the king of the heavens, Ribatus, and the second, the lord of the dead, Plitus.

Ribatus can be compared to Zeus of Greek mythology. He reigned over the heavens and the earth to watch his people thrive. He is the son of the Light, an unknown matter that can never be classified as anything. He is the father of many gods and goddesses and is the mate to Arila, goddess of the sky. Portrayed as a young soldier with the sun and the moon in his hands, Ribatus is truly the Noble of Varula. Thousands of temples are built in honor of Ribatus, including and most famously, the Palace of Aryne. He is said to live in a universe much like heaven, called Vinav or, commonly, the Utopia.

Plitus, referred to as the Devil, is a despicable pawn of the Darkness that rules all of the dead. His portrayal is one of all chaos, giving him the appearance of all hell itself. In his Underworld, all the fears and evils of the real world run rampant, but are sealed off by Ribatus from entrance into Varula. This balance is what keeps the world from being consumed by both of the gods' power.

Those who are deceased do not become gods or goddess of the life beyond, however. They are used as assistants to Ribatus or Plitus, depending on their deeds in Varula. If the dead were noble, they were sent to the Utopia as spirits, used to accept prayers sent from the world below. If those who were dead were vile, they were sent to the Underworld and became demons. Their job was to take the life away from the living.

For all eternity, there has been a raging war between the two sides, showing that even the Light can destroy its own creations. When godly war surfaces to Varula, the result can be deadly, not just to the body, but to the soul as well.
