PART FOUR

"Remus’s Story"

~Pleasant Potions~

Remus picked up his bag hastily and swept out the door. Sirius and James stared from the doorway, watching him rush down the hall.

"He must be hungry." said Sirius, "It’s lunch."

They found their way to the Great Hall where Remus was already seated, staring angrily at his empty plate.

"Remus?" asked James apprehensively, "You kind of forgot to wait for us."

"Oh, sorry." Remus snapped.

James jumped. "No, I didn’t mean it in a bad way…I just…"

"Drop it." Remus said bluntly, "I’m just distracted."

"Okay then." said Sirius cheerfully, taking a seat between James and Peter, "Let’s eat!"

Lunch ended and a double class of Potions followed. Peter, Remus, James, and Sirius found their way to the dungeons where a young witch in pale green robes greeted them. She smiled at the students as they entered.

"Hello!" she said cheerfully, "I’m Professor Jingierasi, but you may called me Professor Amy if you find it easier."

Remus smiled and passed a note to James. "She seems pretty nice!"

James nodded in agreement and turned his attention back to Professor Amy.

"Potions is a wonderful class if you work hard," she was saying, "As long as you pay attention, you should have no problem."

The class went faster then Remus expected, and finally he was free. After dinner, he climbed into bed, content at actually having survived his first day at Hogwarts.

~Before the Moon’s Light~

The next few weeks flew by for Remus. Despite constant glares from Professor Alder and strict commands from Professor Zaine, Remus was positively loving Hogwarts…that was, until the end of September rolled around.

"You don’t look so great Remus." James’s voice said, "Do you have a cold?"

"No." Remus moaned. His head was buried beneath his arms, resting on his Potions desk. "Migraine."

"Do you want to go to the infirmary?"

"No."

"Should I tell Professor Amy?"

"No. I’m just tired, that’s all."

"Okay. I’ll just finish cutting up this wormroot. You rest."

"Okay." Remus sighed. He felt absolutely horrible…much worse then his transformation the day before Hogwarts. "James?"

"Uh-huh?"

Remus coughed, nearly losing his lunch. "Infirmary…please…"

"Um? Professor Amy?" Remus heard James call, "Remus needs to see Madam Pomfrey!"

Professor Amy knelt next to Remus and put an arm around his shoulders. "Moon?" she whispered in his ear.

Remus nodded, trying not to be sick.

"Alright. James will take you down."

Remus stood up shakily and James steadied him. "Let’s go."

"Thank goodness it happened in this class and not Zaine or Alder’s…" Remus thought.

"Do you think you have the flu?" James was saying.

"Probably." Remus managed to choke out. "Please just get me down there."

James picked up the pace a bit, Remus stumbling beside him. Madam Pomfrey met them at the door.

"Hello boys. Ah, you must be Remus. Professor Jingierasi notified me."

"Who?" asked James.

"I believe the students call her Professor Amy." Madam Pomfrey said, taking Remus by the arm. "Let’s get you in bed."

James gave a small wave goodbye and then headed back to class. Madam Pomfrey helped Remus down to a private room and onto the bed. Remus closed his eyes, trying to swallow the wave of nausea coming over him. Taking deep breaths, he managed to sit up long enough to get a pair of pajamas on and crawl into bed. Madam Pomfrey knocked gently and entered. She gave Remus a smile.

"I guess I should get to know you, as we will be seeing each other often."

Remus nodded, trying to return the smile. "It’s usually not this bad before. I make it through the whole day at home."

"Were you very ill like this during your last transformation?"

Remus nodded. "Not as bad, but I was sick."

"That’s the problem. It’s nerves. You are getting the wolf all worked up. It’s because you were scared about Hogwarts, and now the wolf is nervous about a new place for transformation."

"How do you know all this?" Remus asked wearily.

"My cousin was bit when he was very young. Four, I believe."

"I’m sorry." Remus said.

"Why don’t you get some rest. I’ll wake you up before moonrise."

Remus nodded, sinking back into the pillows. Closing his eyes, he was immediately asleep. Only a few moments later it seemed, Madam Pomfrey woke him.

"It’s time to go Remus."

Remus managed to stumble out of bed and across the school grounds. Madam Pomfrey showed him how to get inside a large willow tree that had a passage to an abandoned house. Remus found his way inside and waited.

~Moon Rise~

Remus lay, shivering in the abandoned house, waiting for the moon to rise. There was a large four-poster bed, so he lay on that, pulling the dusty blankets around him. Suddenly, a shock of pain ripped through Remus’s spine and he cried out. Clenching his teeth, Remus’s body transformed as the human lost inside screamed in agony. The wolf was free.

~Dawn Again~

"Remus?"

There was no reply. Remus lay motionless, one leg badly cut and bleeding. His eyes suddenly opened, but they remained unfocused, gazing ahead listlessly.

"Remus?"

Still no reply. Remus shifted his leg slightly and cried out. Madam Pomfrey placed a healing spell upon it and the bones began to grow back together as the skin healed over.

"What…mum?"

"No Remus. It’s Madam Pomfrey."

"Oh. Okay."

"Just lie still. I’m fixing your leg."

Remus nodded, and then abruptly turned his head to the side and was sick all over the floor.

"Oh Remus…" Madam Pomfrey said, sitting him up and performing a quick cleaning charm. "Let’s get you inside."

Remus moaned in reply and allowed himself to be hoisted to his feet. He limped along the tunnel, relying mostly upon Madam Pomfrey to remain standing. When they finally reached the Hospital Wing, Remus nearly passed out upon his bed. Madam Pomfrey covered him in a heavy blanket and left him to sleep.

~A New Threat~

"Hey Remus!"

Remus opened his eyes to see James, Peter, and Sirius standing anxiously over his bed. Remus sat up and swung his legs over the side.

"What?"

"We have something to tell you…" Peter said, wincing.

"What’s wrong?"

"Well…" began James. "It’s like this. Dumbledore announced this morning that there is a new threat to the wizarding world. Supposedly his name is Voldemort…and he’s a dark wizard. He has been wreaking havoc for quite a while, but now he is after Dumbledore…so he’s decided to…um…."

"What?"

"Oh Remus, he killed someone!"

"My goodness…!" he whispered. "This is crazy!"

"I know…but for now Dumbledore’s declared a school emergency. It was a fifth year. You probably didn’t know her."

"So what happens now?" asked Remus.

"He doesn’t know…" said Sirius.

"We can stop him!" Remus said suddenly.

"Smart idea Remus." sighed Sirius. "You’ve got the flu, and we’ve hardly been in school two months!"

"We’ll find a way…no matter what!"

"Well…we are the Marauders, right?"

"Right." said Remus; his face set with determination. "We’re going to save the world!"

"I think the flu is affecting his head" Sirius whispered to James.

"You never know." said James, shaking his head, "It’s really quite a daring idea…but I’m sure we could save the world, considering we are four, 11-year old, untrained wizards. It sounds reasonable."

a/n: Well, it took me FOREVER to get this part out! I hope you like it :) So, Remus wants to save the school, with the Marauder’s help. Daring plan, eh? I’ll try and get the next chapter sooner! Until then, review! :)
