Said the Archer to the Crab

My most revered one,
the one who hates me most
I still remember your hands
My hand
I’m ashamed of all the lies
But you only saw the flaw
not the tapestry that created it
I’m sorry I couldn’t be perfectly
Dingy for you
I’ve bled a million tears for you
Hoping my heart-broken baptism
Will cleanse me of all the sin
I’ve broken my spirit once more for you
And now I sit gluing this piece and that
Trying to create myself beautiful for you
I’d do anything you ask me to
I’d swallow the sun
I’ve sent curses up to the sky
and blades licking across my skin
Against the lies that stole your favor.
Lightening flashes
and birds hide in their nests
And all our angels lie down dead.
I want a happy ending in my story
or at very least, a stalemate
I’ve planted a little seed you see
and watered it on those occasional sunny days
Maybe one day I’ll grow enough courage to
And whatever words are left
We’ll tip toe around
So as not the crush the olive sprout.
