Deftones Report - Glasgow SECC, 22nd March 2001
oh. my. god. the concert was amazing! here is my report! ok....i managed to get ready just in time and left the house with my two sisters, eileen and jennifer, at about 5:30. we got on the bus to buchanan bus station in glasgow, then walked down to queen st station to meet two of their friends (lucy and sevan). We all walked down to the underground, got on it and went to the secc. it didnt take us to long to get in. when we did, sevan took our stuff to the cloakroom and eileen and lucy went off for drinks. jennifer and i stayed together and i saw a couple of people that i knew and said hi. eileen, lucy and sevan came back then me and fenn (jennifer) went down the front to get a better view for when the gig started. when we got down there i met colin, nicola and chris and stayed with them for the duration of the first support band ,
TAPROOT. they were ok considering i had only heard of them a few days earlier. the guy even came into the audience at one point and just walked round the room!!! at the end of their set colin went away with chris and nicola to get a taproot hoodie as he rrreeeaaallllyyyyy likes them. that was when TAPROOT came down to the barrier to meet fans and sign autographs. so now colin hates me for meeting them...MWA HA HA HA HA HA HAAAA!!! next up was
LINKIN PARK. they were amazing and i got some good pictures as i was still right down the front at the barrier. they were so good i was totally blown away! from what i can remember they played papercut, crawling, and basically most of the album. they played one step closer last and everyone went completely mental! it was great! they all came down to the audience afterwards too apart from chester (im not sure why....was it somthing i said?!?) anyway...i got reeeaalllyyy good pictures of them all and i got mike to smile for my camera! (im such a teenybopper/groupie) i got all their autographs (obviously not chesters...coz if i did then i would be classified as a stalker! heh heh) anyway...they all signed my ticket and i had a cup of water that i was given to me by the bouncers coz it was so hot down the front and i got them to sign that once it was empty. heh heh. and i also pinched the guitarest's ass.
during that break they were setting up for the
THE DEFTONES
...they were putting up a huuugggeeee 'white pony' banner that covered the front of the stage so you couldn't see them coming onto the stage unless you were at the side - where i was. the lights went down and there was a huugggeee cheer (i like to think i played a big part in that). i can't remember what they opened up with but i think the second song they played was around the fur. i love that one! a couple of times during the concert
chino
and chi kept asking the crowd to basically calm down. everyone was really crowding in so they were like 'everyone calm down and look out for each other'. generally what bands do nowadays but i suppose if they didnt then they would have hell on their hands. anywayz.....chino came right over to the side right in front of me at one point and i got some really good pictures of him. and he sang to me. i was in total disbelief. he was standing there and i wasnt moshing because i wanted to remember the moment when chino moreno was only a few feet away so everyone else was moshing and for a wee while he looked right at me and i nearly died. it ruled. chino's voice is absolutly amazing live - it stays right throughout the show. the deftones are absolutly blinding live and i highly recommend you go see them. by far the best band i have seen live.
