Gilded Shadows is a rather lengthy song that, in it's most basic form, deals with the decline of mankind. Most could leave it with that, but some parts of the song kinda confuse people. Here's a list of FAQs that we compiled for the use of this site
- What is a Gilded Shadow, anyway?
- The term was made-up by the author, and he used it to mean something like a wolf in sheep's clothing. The shadow is bad, of course, but gild is a kind of gold that is used to makes things look good. So, a gilded shadow is something that seems okay on the surface, but it's interier motives are completely opposite.
- What gives him the right to say that the military is destructive? It is what keeps us safe at night!
- The author agrees whole-heartedly, but he was not speaking of the United States military, or any other real military in the world. He has created a world in the song, and the army that the citizens of a country in that world raised to fight their government. Then the army got out of hand, and became corrupt itself. A little ironic...
- What is the story line of this whole thing? I understand it's about a destruction of mankind, but that's about it.
- The song starts with a government that has taken advantage of the country, and is close to tyranny. The citizens decide the don't like it, and raise an army to over throw it (see above). It works, and they take control of their government, with the best of intentions. They soon find themselves making the same mistakes the former government was making, and have a huge army on their hands that is ravaging its own country (see above). It ends with the message asking you not to make the same misstake with this country.
