FLCL (Furi Kuri)
"There's nothing amazing, just the norm..."

Naota-Our hero

You'll never be as good as your older brother. Your libido is a giant monster out of your control. Does she love you or her last boyfriend? Can you trust her can you trust yourself? Furi Kuri. Your dad is a lech. The things coming out of your head are bigger then you out of your control. She smells like smoke. Furi Kuri. Those eyebrows...She hurts me cause she loves me. Feeding her revenge till it's out of her control. Chopping bullets in half.

Haruko-What a babe

Nothing amazing about robots growing out of your head. Furi Kuri. Nothing amazing about a Vespa riding bass weilding insane alien girl who is also your housekeeper who sleeps with you and is after your brain. Nah.

Those eyebrows...
Naota is just another small town kid in a small town. It's notable only for the giant factory set on a hill that looms over the town. The giant factory that no one works at and which at times will spew huge plumes of smoke over the city completely obscuring it. Naota "dates" Mamimi the homeless ex-girlfriend of his older brother who left for america to play baseball. She talks about herself in the third person. One afternoon Naota gets run over by Haruko. Furi Kuri. If you took tank girl (the comic, not the suckass movie) plus trinity from the matrix and multiplied that by 100 you might have an idea of Haruko. Once this pink haired harpy has laid out our protagonist Naota she revives him with a little mouth to mouth so that she can then pummle him with the electric bass that she carries around with her everywhere. Then things get really out of hand.

FLCL is just one the most amazing things I have ever experienced. It's really hard to describe just because it's not like anything else that I have ever seen. Drawing styles swapping back and forth, freudian plot for days, mad characters. Japanese surrealism to an excellent soundtrack. I think that I like it so much because it seems to perfectly reflect the actual mental processes of a young teenager: Discomfort with your own body, the occult nature of sexuality, parental conflict, transforming robots. It does it with excellent action sequences, killer rock n' roll soundtrack, humor, great characters and a seemingly limitless creativity. I simply cannnot recommend this series highly enough. I have no idea where you would get them, I would assume that you could find them or order them from a store that specialized in anime. I found my episodes on-line. It's only drawback is that there is only 6 episodes. I assure you if you survive watching them you'll wish there was more.
