Mectis
Abby Tyler leans back in her chair with her hands behind her neck. She looks up to let the sun warm her face.
"It’s so hot today", she says to her gang of other seniors who are gathered around the table outside the main building of the high school. Just as she stuffs another hand full of Lay’s potato chips into her mouth, her friend Ali replies.
"Gee, you’re observant Sherlock." In the two years Abby has known her, she had rarely heard Ali say something that wasn’t insulting. But that was the great thing about Ali. Her lack of charm and inflation of ego and sarcasm helped keep Abby’s life insteresting. Ali was power hungry. She felt the need to be the center of everyone’s world, and the need for reward for having the tuff job of working out everyone else’s problems. "I need all the glory", was Ali’s motto for life. I guess you could say she doesn’t notice the other people around her; that they have a life, and problems in it, just like the rest of the world.
"Shut up Ali", Abby responded. Abby had her moments of clarity and calmness, but most of the time she was the complete opposite of calm. She had the shortest fuss ever, and everyone knew it. She had no patience for people who were unwilling to open their mind to the people around them a little, and it got on most peoples nerves. Though, that was the charm of Abby. She was very honest, and always sincere. The one thing Abby hated, however, was being ruled by her emotions. Every time she would let her emotions get the best of her, something bad would always happen.
"HaHaHa!!" Abby heard her other two good friends, Laurel and Daffy, laughing from across the table. Of course they were whispering to themselves, but no one really cared what they were talking about. There were no secrets in this group. Everyone knew everything. So if two people were whispering about something at lunch, it was more than likely the rest of the group knew what it was by the end of the next period.
Laurel was a dreamer, though more recently, and to everyone’s surprise, including her own, she was more aware of the things that went on around her. She began to realize that life was about to hit, and she had to figure out what she was going to do with it. She would always complain that the world hated her, and that everyone she knew hated her. She didn’t have very high self-esteem, but she sure felt good when she got those solos in choir when her rival, Sally, wanted them too. She had the feeling of finally being better at something than someone else.
Laurel was Abby’s best friend. It was great this semester because their schedules were almost exactly the same. It was lunch, and the last three classes of the day Abby had with Laurel, which decreased the agony of actually having to go to class everyday.
"I don’t want to go to my next class." Daffy spoke to the whole group sitting around the table.
"Gee. I’m sorry Daff. I’m excited for my next class." Laurel said as she looked at Abby. They smiled at each other.
"Oh yeah…" Abby said as Laurel and her slapped their hands together in a high five. Everyone else was confused.
"What class do you have next?" Ali asked. Now she was curious, she who enjoys everyone else’s business and doesn’t pay enough attention to her own.
"English." Abby said simply.
"Uh…and you are excited about English?" Ali seemed a little confused. Abby and Laurel however just looked at each other and laughed.
"Yup."
"And why is that?" Ali just NEEDED to know.
"Uh…the Sexy Camo man." Abby explained. Though it was pointless. No one knew who this "Sexy Camo man" was. No one knew except Laurel and Abby.
"What the fuck is the sexy Camo man?" Ali asked. Abby and Laurel once again just looked at each other and laughed.
"No one." They both answered at the same time. "RING RING RING!!" Lunch was over. Time for fifth period. The group all went there own separate ways in disappointment and curiosity. No one wanted to go to class, especially without knowing what was so interesting in Laurel and Abby’s fifth period. But Laurel and Abby were happy. They get to see the Sexy Camo man.
"Did we have any English homework, Laurel?" Abby had a bad habit of NOT doing her homework. It was senior year; no one did their homework. Senior year is short of a waiting period until it was time to go to college, were the REAL work begins. Might as well have a year off working before stepping into academic hell.
"Oh shit. I don’t remember. I’m gonna fail. Ms. Barney hates me." Laurel soaked. She never did her homework either, than when realizing she didn’t do it, felt ashamed for five minutes and then went on with daily life. It was almost an every day occurrence. Her mom had always wanted her to do well in school and get into a really great college. She kind of forced it upon Laurel. But Laurel didn’t care. Her mom lived in her own world. One that didn’t come close to matching what Laurel wanted in life. "I have to use the bathroom. I will meet you in class." Laurel said to Abby as she walked away.
"Ok." Abby looked over her shoulder and as she did she saw the sexiest man alive. Oh my God. Sexy Camo Man, Abby thought as she began to drool.
"Hey Abby." He said to her, as he was about to pass by.
"Uhh..h..Hi Se..uhh..Tom." Abby managed to say, even if it was just stuttering. Abby just stood in the doorway of the English classroom, right in front of Tom. "Do you think you could move out of the way or maybe walk into the classroom, please?"
"Oh yeah...sorry." She was so embarrassed. I thought he just wanted to talk to me. Damn. I am such a dumbass. *sigh* At least he talked to me. She swooned into the classroom with a contented look on her face. It was obvious she wasn't in this world, but her own fantasy "Sexy Camo" world. Tom walked in behind her. Abby was suddenly awakened from her dream world right when Sexy Camo Man took off his shirt, when she realized that she and Tom were the only one's in the classroom. Hmm...The teacher will be here soon. She quickly glances over at Tom to see him lay on his desk trying to sleep. Abby could only drool. He is so good looking. I wish I had the guts to talk to him. He hardly knows I exist. What a depressing thought. Abby leaned back in her chair and relaxed. Time flew by and soon ten minutes had passed. Abby looked around confused. She could see Tom still lying on his desk, but now he was snoring. She gave a disgusted look and stood up from her seat. She looked out the window and saw not a single person.
"Is it getting dark, or is it just me?" She asked her self.
"Don't be a dumbass. The windows are tinted." Tom had awakened.
"Oh. Whatever." Abby turned red.
"So what going on? Why hasn't class started?" His tone seemed concerned but his face was still groggy looking. He really needs to stop taking those random trips up north on school nights, Abby thought.
"I don't know. Maybe there was a meeting or something we are supposed to be at. A senior meeting or something." Tom stood up. He was a little wobbly from his nap. "Maybe. Lets go look around. Maybe everyone is in the gym." He walked over to the door and opened it. The handle was cold as ice. So cold it almost hurt to touch it. The second the door cracked, the world was changed. They looked to the left, and it was white. They looked to the right, and it was white. They looked up, and it was also white. The entire world was white. Abby reached her arm out and saw the flesh tone of her skin. She turned to see Tom, and he wasn't white. It was just the world around them.
"Uhh…I don't think this is normal" Tom said. He looked over at Abby as she placed her hand in his. She was trembling.
"I'm scared." Tom turned his head away to look around him.
"Where are we?"
"I have no idea." Abby was scared silly, but she was determined as well. "But lets walk. We are bound to find something." Tom was surprised to see her face her fear in such a way. He smiled and followed her as she walked with a quick pace into the mysterious and colorless situation they have fallen into. Many hours later, Abby and Tom were still walking into the same colorless void. "Ahhww...I give up!" Abby states and flops onto the ground. Tom follows. *sigh*
"We are getting no where."
"Tom…We are no where. There is no where else to go." Abby mocked.
"Shut up! I'm to tired to care." Tom always seemed to be tired. But this time, Abby agreed.
"Let's sleep then." She suggested. But before she could finish her sentence, he was already asleep. She lay down beside him and looked at him for a few moments before she finally drifted into dreamland.

MECTIS!! YOU ARE IN THE LAND OF MECTIS!! HELP US!! HELP US!!

Abby and Tom both woke up startled by their dreams. Wide eyes and deep breathes, they realized what just happened. "LOOK OVER THERE!!" Abby pointed out a small patch of yellow light a great distince away. "Lets go!" Tom yelled and they both stood up and ran. When they got to the light, they entered a different world than the white blankness that was before. They entered a world of ....BANANAS!! A world where bananas had taken over. It seemed that everything was the same as the world they were familiar with, only instead of people, there were bananas. "What the hell??" Abby and Tom were too confused to move. They stood wide eyed and with mouths open until finally a big banana named Cole walked up to them. "Whaat aare yoou dooing heere?" He asked. For some reason Cole liked to pronouce the vowel sounds in words. He was obsessed with vowels. "Doo Yoou liike vooweels?" He asked them. "No!" Tom said sharply. "We would like to know where we are though. Could you tell us where we are?" "II Caan't Undeerstaand yoou unlees yoou liike vooweels." Cole replied. Tom was losing his patience. "Fine. Wiill yoou pleeaase teel us wheere wee are?" Tom copied the banana's tone. "Yoou aare iin BaanaanaaViille iin the woorld of Meectiis." The large, talking banana answered. Tom and Abby looked at each other. "MECTIS!!" The name clicked with the dream they both had. Tom looked at the banana. "Why are you a banana?" "II diidn't aalwaays used too bee aa baanaana. But oone daay eeveery peersoon iin thiis paart oof Meectiis waas tuurned iintoo a baanaanaa." "Really?" Abby was interested. "Let's go Tom. Look over there. It's another light." They ran again into the light and when entering the light they entered a totally different world again. "AHHHH!!!!" Abby screamed. She saw something she had never wanted to see in her entire life. It was her worst nightmare. It was the nightmare that she couldn't even imagine having a nightmare about because it was too scary! "What is it?" Tom asks. "Its..It's..TRAVIS!!" There were hundreds of Travis' everywhere. "Who is Travis?" "Just the biggest asshole of all time." "Oh." Just then a Travis walked up to them. "Hi. I'm Travis. You wanna have sex. I have a girlfriend, but she won't find out." "Eww..What the hell!?" "Hey, don't be rude to Abby." Tom defended her. Abby was happy. He loves me!! "I imagine this is TravisVille?" Tom asks Travis. "How'd you guess?" He asks. Tom and Abby looked at him sadly. "Gee..I don't know. It might be the lack of Travis' around." "LOOK!! Another light!" Abby yells. "Let's go!!" They run once again into the light, and when they come out of the light they are once again in for a new surprise. "HAHAHA!!" Abby starts laughing at the sight she sees before her. Tom..well..He is just confused. "What are we looking at?" Tom asks her. "It's Jim is Satan Ville." Abby laughs at all the Jim's dancing to weird music in devil outfits. "He is like, falling over and stuff. He looks like a dumbass." "Yes he does." Abby sits down on the grass and watches all the Jims make fools out of themselves. It was pleasent. Tom was just confused. Poor Tom. They sat there for about a half an hour watching Jim be dumb until they got sick of it and spotted another light. When they walked through this light, they didn't expect what they got. "Oh baby baby how was I supposed to know. THat somethin' wasn't right here." "Oh my God!!" Tom yelled! "It's Britney Spears world!" He was obviously happy. He began to run to the stage where Britney was, but Abby grabbed him and pulled him back. "Where the hell do you think your'e going?" Abby was annoyed. "I'm going to go see if I can get laid by Britney Spears!" "YOU ASSHOLE!" Just then, in the mist of tring to hold Tom back, Abby saw a very sexy man and let Tom go. "Oh my God! It's Ewan McGregor!!" Abby was now VERY happy. Heehee.."I think I'm going to stay in this world for a little longer than the others." Abby had a giant grin on her face. "And at the same time I will make Tom feel jealous and he will fall in love with me." Abby throws her arms up in the air and yells, "IT'S PERFECT!!" She walks up to Ewan. "Hi. I'm.." Just then there is a loud noise and a terrible shaking. From out of the trees comes a giant! Abby and Tom run to each other and look up at it. Abby is in shock! "It's..It's..Laurel's mother!" "WHO DARES TRY TO STEAL MY DAUGHTERS WORLD!" "Uhh..I have no idea what you are talking about." Abby yells up to Laruel's mother. "MECTIS IS LAUREL'S WORLD AND YOU HAVE INVADED IT!!" "We didn't choose to be here." "WHO SPEAKS TO ME?" "It's Abby. Laurel's friend. You remember me?" "OH! ABBY. WAIT A SECOND. LET ME TAKE YOUR PICTURE." Laurel's mother takes out her huge camera from her huge purse and snaps a huge picture. "Uh..Ok. yeah...that was random." Abby said, confused. Just then from the trees appeared Laurel. She was not a giant at all. She was normal sized, thank God, for Abby was going to go crazy. She was mostly going crazy because Tom was holding her hand, but partly because Laurel's mom was a giant who took her picture. "Mom!!" Laurel yelled. Her mom looked down at Laurel and smiled. "Look what I got for you at the store today, dear." She pulled out a tiny pair of jean shorts from her purse and gave it to Laurel. "Here you go. I know how much you love jean shorts." "Mom!! I told you over and over and over again that I hate jean shorts. I don't even wear shorts." "Oh Laurel. You don't have to lie to me." Laurel was frustrated. "God mom!! Can't you just leave me alone. Just leave me alone. LEAVE ME ALONE!" Each time Laurel told her mom to leave her alone, Laurel's mom got bigger. "Uhh..Laurel. Maybe you should stop saying that." Tom was nervous. Abby just stood next to Tom drooling because he was still holding her hand. "LEAVE ME ALONE!" Laurel finally finished yelling, but it was too late. Her mom was too big, and she popped.
-----------
Just as Laurel's mother popped, Abby and Tom opened their eyes. They were there, in English class, just as it was supposed to be before they arrived in Mectis. Was it all a dream? Abby asked herself. But she turned around to see Tom sitting next to her, and holding her hand. They smiled at each other and knew, it was more than a dream.
