Okay, how can anyone not like Blondie?
Blondie is the epitome of feel good, have fun music. Coming from an era when it was dangerous to be a woman with shoulder length brown hair--thanks to the Son of Sam--this blonde bombshell fell from the heavens straight into the disco pit.
Best of Blondie is the one album I listen to whenever I most need an emotional lift. Something about Debbie Harry's voice just seems to make everything better. For the longest time when I had started smoking pot again, this was the only album I could ever listen to when I was stoned.
I like the California flavoring behind Atomic. I love the rap at the end of Rapture--which I heard a rumor actually placed Debbie Harry in the books as the first rap recording artist. I love the giddy, upbeat nature of The Tide is High; the bad-ass imaging behind Rip Her to Shreds; and the fact that every time I hear One Way or Another, I now can't help but think of The Rugrats. (Oh stop--like you never watched The Rugrats and enjoyed it!) I also adore the fact that Maria is one of the few successful attempts any older band has ever made at a comeback.
I'll also admit that I have this bizarre Debbie Harry fetish altogether. I loved her in Tales From the Darkside--was that the one she was in? You know the one I mean--the one where she tries to cook Matthew Lawrence for a party she's throwing.
On to Pink
Anyway--I'll actually keep this one short and sweet. You can follow the link below to the band's personal website to find out more about them.
