My B Movie rating page

Anybody who knows me, knows I'm crazy about movies. And anybody who REALLY knows me, knows I'm nuts about indy (independent) and B movies. Mostly horror and sci-fi. This page is dedicated to rating the indy films I have seen and rating them so that maybe they will have a larger audience then just myself. Indy films are movies that don't have a big budget, or aren't produced by big companies, (ie: Paramount, Universal) but Fox Searchlight pictures can be and exception. Anyway, these movies are made by first time and veteran directors, and sometimes have maybe one or 2 big names in them. But that is not what matters. What matters is that Indy films are just as good as big-budget hollywood films and I'm here to show it.

The Brotherhood

This is a pretty good college flick about a demented fraternity. Its a pretty short movie about a group of vampire wanna-be's sucking the blood of drunk party goers without killing them, just to stay alive so they can keep going to college as long as they live. Pretty smart. This movie stand's out to me for two reasons. First, it is the first DVD I have ever seen that has no menu or features what so ever, and 2nd, it is the first movie I have ever seen that has a HIGHLANDER REFERENCE!!!!

Warlock 3: The End Of Innocence

This movie surprised the heck out of me as soon as I popped it in, because they scrapped the original Warlock Julian Sands, for Bruce Payne, the guy who played Jacob in HIghlander:Endgame. Ya, he's got bad guy expierience, but he just couldn't pull through with this one. Its abouut a bunch of college students spending a weekend in the middle of nowhere, aka the lead girls inheirited house. The Warlock throws himself on them posing as a fix-er-up guy, and starts turning them against each other. Good for a one time rent.

Children of the Corn 2:The Final Sacrifice

This movie scared the living hell outta me. I put this one on but not the original, because the original is not considered an indy movie. But they both scared the hell outta me. COTC2 is the first movie I can say that gave me nightmares. It picks up right after the first one, with the town of Gatlin, Nebraska cleaning up the mess of dead adults and sending the possesed children to psycho therapy. It seems they have been rehab'd, until a new evil arives in the form of a child named Micah, and the kids are once again possesed. I reporter and his son get caught up in the killings in the second addition of this frightfest.

Children of the Corn 3:Urban Harvest

This one is a far cry from the first two in that two children who have the powers of the possesed children, but have the ability to control themselves. One is a good child, the other is evil, and get this, they are brothers. They run away from home, get adopted by a family, and get sent to Catholic school, where the evil one raises hell. They twins eventually fight, leading up to the bad one unleashing a fake looking moster on Chicago and the good one having to find an ancient book to stop him. It's different, but it's worth a look.

Existenz

This is by far one of my favorite indy movies of all time. It has some pretty big names like Jennifer Jason Leigh, Jude Law, and Willam Defoe, and they all put up great performances. But the names don't add to the appeal of a great storyline, low grade special effects, and the introduction of one of the greatest film icons EVER, Darcy Nader. Existenz is about a recluse genius who creates over the top type video games. After she releases her newest creation, Exsitenz, a group of anti-virtual reality freaks vow to take her down. The movie has lots of twists and turns and makes you wonder how far the human mind can go when given a chance.

The Brotherhood 2: Young Warlocks

This is the followup to the 2000 straight-to-vid release. The setting is the ame as the first (Chandler Academy). This time around, a weird warlock type dude (hence the subtitle) comes to the school and seduces 3 of its most troubled students into usin black magic and stuff like that. Minus all the gay references (a hot lookin chick gets gangbanged in one scene, so that makes up for it) its an ok movie, but the first one had more depth. AND NO HIGHLANDER REFERENCES!!!

Boondock Saints

I can't say a bad word about this movie. It has absolutly everything. Blood, guts, sex toys, and a gay cop. Seriously, this is one of my all time favs. Its about 2 Catholic brothers from Boston who feel they are on a mission from God to kill just about everyone. Well, coincidentally, they take out a chunk of the russian mafia and a bunch of porn addicts, AND an in-session courtroom (BIG finish). The whole time they are being labeled "saints" by a local newspaper and "cold-blooded killers" by a cop who finds struggling with his sexuality a past time.

The Brotherhood 3: Young Demons
Just released so I havent seen it yet.
