RATING:     3 penguins out of 5 would enjoy this movie. It's just a little too sad and bloody for 2 of the penguins' tastes.

VIEWING EXPIERIENCE:     I really did not want to see this movie. I don’t do well with war or romantic movies. This one fit both descriptions. But my grandparents wanted to see it so I complied. Actually this movie wasn’t that bad. It was certainly romantic and very sad. It was the kind of movie that makes you want to run out of the theater and call that special someone and express your love and never waste another minute away from them. If you don’t have that person… well, too bad. I would have made it out of the theater to the pay phone but my grandma dive tackled me. ;P

The movie was pretty well done. Though Nicholas Cage’s (Captain Corelli) Italian accent a bit obnoxious to say the least. That and I found some of the jokes tasteless. Warning there is extreme violence and some nudity. The movie took place in Greece and the scenery and music were so wonderful. All in all I don’t have much to say other than I heard one of the funniest comments ever to be said during a movie. It was made during a tear filled, heart gushing scene when the star-crossed lovers finally kiss though the girl is engaged. And as their lust is finally manifested I hear, “Cheating cold hearted bitch!” LOL! It still tickles me to this day.

STORY SUMMARY:     The very intelligent and opinionated Pelagia (Penelope Cruz) becomes engaged to Mandras (Christian Bale), a not so very smart opinionated person. But before they can marry, duty calls and Mandras goes off to war (WWII.) War wages and an Italian army takes up camp in the small Greek village, Pelagia lives in with her father the town doctor. Captains are housed with villagers and the doctor has the misfortune of rooming Captain Corelli. Full of life and song Captain Corelli falls for the doctor’s daughter, Pelagia. Though she is resistant, love conquers all and she falls for the enemy and his mandolin music. But it is very dangerous to find love during war.

CONCLUSION:     *shrugs* See it if you want.
