RATING:     5 penguins out of 5 would enjoy this movie. Quoteth one, "Elves are fricking cool."

VIEWING EXPIERIENCE:     To be honest I did not like the first one in the trilogy. Sure, it was cool looking and well done but... I just wasn't grabbed by it. Plus I don't know how much of a chance I really gave it. *shrugs*

I came into school Tuesday morning a week ago and my friends were foaming at the mouth. "We're going to go see Lord of the Rings tonight at midnight! The first showing too! You should come too!" So I decided to give this movie trilogy a second chance. Plus heck what else did I really have to do? Then much to my pleasure I found out my boyfriend, Kyle was going too. Much giggling and plotting ensued and plans were set. Aaron picked me up around 10 and I hid in the back unbeknownst to Kyle. Then when we arrived at the movie theater, Aaron piped in, "So Kyle you ready to go see this movie?"
    "Hell yeah!"
On cue I jumped up and said, "Me too!" *giggles* I'm the surprise ninja!

The theater was packed and mostly with males. A few people wore some cool capes. My group chatted with another about who would win in a fight; Luke Skywalker or Goku from Dragon Ball Z. A fight almost started up and Aaron began a slow clap. And so the setting was set.

Getting down to it... I really enjoyed this movie. I don't know whether it was because of the company I had with me or my mind set. But I was truely entertained. It was 3 hours long and towards the end I was getting antsy but that was from sheer lack of sleep not boringness. The action kept moving. There was intrigue and romance. Also there was comedic relief but it wasn't over done. It was very tasteful. You really got more indepth into the characters in this movie. Also the setting (shot in New Zealand) and the costumes and the overall cinematography was beautiful. Even though I barely remembered the first one I could follow the plot (though Kyle helped at times.) But still I suggest you see the first one before this one. I plan on rewatching it soon actually. The only thing that got to me was the closeness in appearance between the creature Gollum and my grandma...

STORY SUMMARY:     Middle Earth is in distress. The evil wizard Saruman (Christopher Lee) is starting an evil war to exterminate the human race and throw Middle Earth into darkness, all in the name of Sauron who controlls the One Ring of Power. The story follows three groups in their fight against this evil. First the hobbits, Frodo (Elijah Wood) and Sam (Sean Astin) journey to Mordor to destroy the One Ring of Power with the creature Gollum as their guide. Next we have Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), Legolas (Orlando Bloom), and Gimli (John Rhys-Davies) who are fighting to protect the people of Rohan and. Lastly Merry and Pippen strive to win support for the human cause. Lost of battling... lots of cool effects. Yeah... coolness...

BEST QUOTE:     "Don't tell the elf!"

CONCLUSION: For the love of elves and dwarves and all that are cool see this movie. Can't hurt. Just 3 hours of your life.
