RATING:     4 penguins out of 5 would enjoy this movie. The one that didn't like it was probably super relgious or something. Those silly penguins and their religon.

VIEWING EXPIERIENCE:     I watched Shadow of the Vampire on a DVD at my friends’ house along with my brother. Hmm… How to start? Okay well first I don’t know if this movie was supposed to be a comedy but I found it hilarious. Now keep in mind it may just be my own twisted sense of humor. I found the vampire played by William DaFoe more comical than creepy, almost lovable in a way. I burst into laughter several times when all he did was shift his eyes and twiddle his long spindly fingers. *giggles* That silly vampire and his killing of people. *giggles* Also since this movie took place on the set of an old black and white movie the acting was horrendous and also quite the funny spectacle. All and all I thought the makeup was very good. It’s kind of cool to see the how the actors had to make up their faces in that time and the old-fashioned technology they used. As for music I couldn’t hear any over my shrieks of sporadic laughter. I heard a rumor that the beginning of the movie (credits) cost 2 million dollars. It was cool and artsy but I have no idea how it cost that much. Then again I don’t know that much about the movie business these days other than they spend money like it’s water.

STORY SUMMARY:     Shadow of the Vampire takes place on the set of a movie. It chronicles the making of the 1920s classic Nosferatu. Nosferatu in case you don’t know is basically Dracula with the names changed for legal reasons (seriously.) Anyway the demented and definitely insane director F.W. Murnau (John Malkovich) shoots his masterpiece with the help of an actual vampire now turned actor. Murnau caters to the vampire’s needs and promises him in the end the leading lady’s, Greta’s (Catherine McCormack) life in return for his cooperation in making this all too real scary movie. Of course there are plenty of the shenanigans on the vampire’s behalf as in you know… drinking the cameraman’s blood and all. *giggles* Well, what do expect from a vampire turned Hollywood? In the end, this movie will leave you saying, “Wha?” and a sense that you missed something. This is quite the weird movie. You’ll probably end up laughing but trust me this is not a feel good movie. This is the darkest of all the dark comedies I’ve seen. This is NOT a kid movie, there is minor nudity.

BEST QUOTES:     “I VANT makeup!"

CONCLUSION:     See it and dare to laugh.
