RATING:     5 penguins out of 5 would enjoy this movie. One would probably hurt itself by trying to do the moves.

VIEWING EXPIERIENCE:     Every Saturday I would repeat the same ritual, I would check what time Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was playing then… I wouldn’t go. But it’s the thought that counts right? Anyway I finally got around to renting it this weekend. Yeah… It kicked butt. I watched it with my mom and sure she kept on falling asleep but I wouldn’t blame the movie. She has her own rituals and one is falling asleep during every movie. Heck, she fell asleep during Jurassic Park… in the theater. Anyway back to the movie. It was romantic, it was adventurous, it was profound. The choreography was jaw dropping. I have always been amazed with choreography but this is just amazing. I really appreciated it as a martial artist myself. It’s far beyond my comprehension how they did it. A lot of the fighting is done so it looks like they are flying or jumping agiley. It is really well done. Sometimes it’s extremely obvious that they use a crane and lines in movies but this was seamless. My favorite fight was one between two of the main actresses. It made me nostalgic for my old ninja days. *sniff* Those were the days… Anyway the actors are wonderful. Especially a personal favorite of mine, Chow Yun Fat (The Killer and Hard Boiled.) Everything was very authentic far as I could tell. I love the Asian culture it’s so interesting and rich and this movie definitely accented it. Especially in the music, it was sooo wonderful. And the scenery is breathtaking. Some was shot in the beautiful deserts of China.

STORY SUMMARY:     Trouble starts with a theft of the Green Destiny (a lovely but deadly ancient sword) in China. It’s rumored that the Jade Fox is behind it. The Jade Fox is a famed female ninja wanted by many. Especially Li Mu Bai (Chow Yun Fat), the guardian of the sword, whose Wudan master was poisoned by her. Under all the fights is a deep and riveting love story between Li Mu Bai and his close friend Yu Shu Lien (Michelle Yeoh.) Also thrown into the mix is a mysterious young aristocrat Jen (Zhang Zi Yi) looking for her freedom from conventions. Warning this movie will bum you out. It showcases the Chinese dedication to tradition and honor.

BEST QUOTES:     “No, I'm a man who's found the brightest star of all."

CONCLUSION:     See it.
