Kate's 'Gone with the Wind' Page

This is the Page devoted to one of my latest obsessions, Gone with the Wind, the "greatest love story of our time, the story of Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler..."! Enjoy it, I certainly did...

Movie Poster- The burning of Atlanta

"...Margret Mitchell's monumental epic of the South won a Pulitzer Prize, gave rise to the popular motion picture of our time, and inspired a sequel that became the fastest selling novel of the century. It is one of the most popular books written; more than 28 million copies of the book have een sold in more than 37 countries. Today, more than half a century after it's intitial publication, its achievements are unparalleled, and it remains the most revered American saga and the most beloved work by an American writer..."

Our Katie Scarlett O'Hara Hamilton Kennedy Butler

"Scarlett O'Hara was not beautiful, but men seldom realized it when caught by her charm. In her face were too sharply blended the delicate features of her mother, a Coast(Charleston) aristicrat, and the heavy ones of her florid Irish father. But it was an arresting face, pointed of chin, square of jaw. Her eyes were pale green without a touch of hazel, starred with bristly black lashes and slightly tilted at the ends. Above them, her thick black brows slanted upward, cutting a startling obilique line in her magnolia-white skin- that skin so prized by Southern women and so carefully guarded with bonnets, veils and mittens against hot Georgia suns." -line from book, pg. 1

Rhett and Scarlett

'"But I will tell you," she began rapidly, as if fearing his hand upon her mouth, silencing her. "Oh, Rhett, I love you so, darling! I must have loved you for years and I was such a fool I didn't know it. Rhett, you must believe me!".

"Did it ever occur to you that I loved you as much as a man can love a woman? Loved you for years before I finlly got you? During the war I'd go away and try to forget about you, but I couldn't and I always had to come back. After the war I risked arrest, just to come back and find you. I cared so much I believe I would have killed Framk Kennedy if he hadn't died when he did. I loved you but I couldn't let you know it. You're so brutal to those who love you, Scarlett. You take their love and hold it over their heads like a whip".

He drew a short breath and said lightly but softly:"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn..."
