Sublime was formed featuring guitarist and vocalist Bradley Nowell, bassist Eric Wilson, and drummer Bud Gaugh. Thier first gig back in 1988 in Long Beach, California set off a small scale riot while starting a large group of Southern California followers. "Once known as the below average garage punk band that every kid wanted to play at his party,” Sublime quickly rose from a group of beer buddies into a widely known musical icon. In 1992, when Sublime realized all of the things they had begun, they began thier own record label. Bradley and producer Miguel pawned the bands equipment and began Skunk Records, to make, release, and distribute thier debut album 40 Oz. to Freedom. 40 Oz. to Freedom, which is now a cult classic, was recorded for below $1,000 and now sold thousands of copies with the first 30,000 sold out of the trunks of the band members cars. 40 Oz. was on the Billboard Alternative New Artist Albums Chart for over 50 weeks and spending the last 30 of those weeks in the top 20. The album also made it into the Billboard Heatseeker while spending 5 weeks as Billboard's Pacific Region #1 new artist topseller. Sublime's second album, Robbin' the Hood, released in 1994, was partially recorded on 4-tracks on a small budget. The band recorded alot of the album in abandoned houses and living rooms throughout Long Beach, California along with some time at West Beach Studios. Robbin' the Hood, which wasn't meant as a follow-up to 40 Oz. to Freedom actually served as a preview to the possibilities of Sublime that had yet to be shown. Around this time, Brad adopted a dalmation he called Lou-Dog. In 1996, Sublime came out with thier self-titled album. This was the one that would make Sublime huge. With singles such as Doin' Time, Wrong Way, Santeria,and What I Got, Sublime got a large following across the country. The song What I Got won the 1997 MTV Video Music Award for Best Alternative Video. The only thing missing from the release of Sublime was Bradley. Sadly, on May 25,1996, about two months before Sublime was released, Bradley Nowell, the lead vocalist of Sublime died of a heroin overdose. Shortly thereafter the remaining members of the group, Bud and Eric, formed the Long Beach Dub All Stars. Sublime has had 5 albums come out even after Bradley's death. Second Hand Smoke, Acoustic: Bradley and Friends, Live- Stand by Your Van, 20 Century Masters and Sublime: Greatest Hits have accounted for many acoustic, dubs, remixes, and rare songs. Sadly in early 2000 Lou-Dog died of old age. After Longbeach Dub Allstars first hit "Sunny Hours" came out, they disbanded. Bud is now in Eyes Adrift
