I keep seeing this stuff on the news about those new Euros they are using for currency. I have to admit, I'm a bit torn about those things as it stands right now.
On one hand, it's a good idea. It would get rid of the need to change your money over if you go to other countries and all, and in a strange way, it's a way of unifying the world, if you want to look at it in a simple way.
However, I don't like the idea of getting rid of the currency of these countries in a lame attempt to make life a little easier and "unify us." I think it's forcing these countries to lose their culture.
Look at your own currency. My money here, American currency, has pictures of old U.S. presidents on them. There's a whole bunch of stuff that is related to our country. And, I must admit I don't like the idea of "In God We Trust" written on the money since America is suppossed to have a seperation of church and state, but these things (words and images alike) are a part of our culture, of our history.
All countries have some sort of culture on their currency. Whether they have royals on their money, or kangaroos, these things are a part of their culture. By changing the currency of these countries to one joint currency, they lose a part of their culture. I learned a little bit about our history when I was a young kid by looking at our money and asking my mom who these men were. And I am sure a lot of kids asked who they were, and kids in other countries ask about their money, as well. These things will be lost with the Euro.
I don't know. I can see how it can be a real good idea. But I still hate to see this little piece of history and culture get sucked down the drain because it may be easier. Then again, it probably won't be any easier.
