The Last Kiss
I got this article from the Jan 2002 issue of AP.
New album title:TBA
Release Date: Fall 2002, on Nitro
What Can We Expect?: "I think that anybody who appreciates what we've done musically over the past couple of years is going to be able to appreciate what we're doing now," predicts Davey Havok. "There's the dark thread that ties all of our music together, so that will always be the underlying aesthetic of our band." Indeed, AFI's music conjures images of a mosh pit in a cmetery, where ghoulish punks stir it up on the graves of Jane's Addiction and the Misfits. The dark imagery also extends to AFI's album artwork and merchandise, on which famed poster artist Alan Forbes has expertly rendered Halloweenish characters and settings. Although Havok says Forbes will contribute to AFI's new album art, he's tight-lipped about the details. Asking the frontman to share a peek at the new disc's lyrics proves equally fruitless. Eplains Havok, "I never talk about the content of my songs, lyrically speaking. When I was growning up, there were a lot of songs that meant something to me, and then I found out that it meant something entirely different to the person that penned those songs, and it was kind of disappointing. I think people just take what they need in their lives from the lyrics. That's how I want it to be."
