Sharif Don't Like It
Here Are my picks for Favorite Bands... if you don't like them... SOD OFF.
Alice In Chains
- Poor, poor Alice In Chains. I miss them. They were such a good band! Grinding guitar, pounding drums, crunchy vocals… Everything a good Grunge band could ever have. I hope Layne is doing well, but listen up, kiddies: HEROIN IS BAD. VERY BAD. Besides, can’t you spend your money on something more productive, like potatoes or something?
- R. I. P. L A Y N E S T A L E Y
- Songs I Recommend By Alice In Chains: Would?, Rooster, Grind, What The Hell Have I, I Stay Away, Them Bones, Angry Chair, We Die Young, Heaven Beside You
- Best Alice In Chains Album: if you want to hear your favorites, then Nothing Safe: The Best Of The Box... but I heard Dirt is commendable!
Black Flag
- I don’t know why people don’t get into this band more often. Good old Hank Rollins screaming about black coffee, drinking and driving, and that girl from L7 is good music, people! I myself don’t own a Black Flag album, but what I have heard has been pretty unbelievable.
- Songs I Recommend By Black Flag: Black Coffee, Slip It In, Drinking and Driving, Beat My Head Against The Wall, The Crazy Girl
The Clash
- Punk pioneers if I have ever heard some! These Brits are a smashing jolly good time… really, they kick ass. A really great political band in the same style as The Dead Kennedys, but with a British edge. I LIKE IT! They rock my casbah.
- Songs I Recommend By The Clash: Janie Jones, Should I Stay Or Should I Go?, I’m So Bored With The USA, White Riot, I Fought The Law, Rock The Casbah, Train In Vain, Complete Control, All The Young Punks, London's Burning
- Best Clash Album: I recommend The Singles, but The Clash UK Version is just as good!
The Dead Kennedys
- Aside from Jello Biafra sounding like a demented clown, The Dead Kennedys are a powerful political band that just keeps on going when everyone else says “The Hell With It!” I recommend The Dead Kennedys on a long trip to work during Rush Hour… it keeps down the urges to run over pedestrians.
- Songs I Recommend By The Dead Kennedys: Nazi Punks, Pull My Strings (as much as Ska sucks, this song has an awesome Ska interlude), We’ve Got A Bigger Problem Now, Terminal Preppie, Well-Paid Scientist, Man With The Dogs, Police Truck, California Über Alles, Halloween, Hyperactive Child, Holiday In Cambodia, Too Drunk To Fuck, Short Songs (hilarious!), Hop With the Jet-Set, Do The Slag, Chickenshit Conformist, Shrink, Triumph of the Swill, One-Way Ticket To Pluto, Kill The Poor, Stealing People's Mail, Let's Lynch The Landlord, When Ya Get Drafted, Your Emotions, Drug Me, MTV Get Off The Air, Soup Is Good Food, Stars and Stripes of Corruption
- Best Dead Kennedys Album: Bedtime For Democracy
Deftones
- I haven’t heard anything from these guys in a while! Remember that song where Chino was singing “Suck” and it really sounded like… Never mind. Deftones are a good metal band, even though some of their stuff is Nü Metal (icky), they are still a very talented.
- Songs I Recommend By The Deftones: Around The Fur, Dai The Flu, MX, Change (In The House Of Flies), Headup, My Own Summer (Shove It)
- Best Deftones Album: Around The Fur
The Doors
- What is there to say about The Doors? Well, for starters, no one on Earth is like them, they can never be imitated or duplicated, and never has there been a band that has an organ and STILL rocked out. Jim Morrison is a poet, a prophet, and one hell of a singer. He was also GORGEOUS, but that I’ll leave alone.
- Songs I Recommend By The Doors: Peace Frog, Love Her Madly, Hyacinth House, Love Me Two Times, L’America, The End (Oedipus at his best!), Light My Fire, Not To Touch The Earth, Queen Of The Highway, Waiting For The Sun, 20th Century Fox, Unknown Soldier, Roadhouse Blues, Touch Me
- Best Doors Album: I’ll leave that one up to you…
Filter
- I don’t understand why people don’t like them either! These guys are great. They sound a little like Jane’s Addiction, but better. Techno-rock is awesome in my mind, no matter what anyone says to me, and I think that more people should listen to Filter. INTERESTING FACTOID: The singer, Richard Patrick, was a guitar player for Nine Inch Nails, and his brother replaced David Duchovny on the X-Files.
- Songs I Recommend By Filter: Hey Man, Nice Shot, Jurassitol, The Best Things, Captain Bligh, I’m Not The Only One, It’s Gonna Kill Me, Cancer, I Will Lead You, Skinny, Welcome To The Fold, Where Do We Go From Here, You Walk Away, Columind
- Best Filter Album: I have only heard one, but Title of Record is good… damn good
Jimi Hendrix
- THE MAN… Many people don’t know this, but he is my Guardian Angel. He has got to be the greatest guitar player that ever lived… EVER.
- Stupid Story Alert: Flashback to 8th grade, when my friend Kate and I asked our History teacher if he knew who Jimi Hendrix was. His reply: “Didn’t he go to our school a couple years back?” TRUE STORY. Other responses I received when asking people who Jimi was: “Isn’t he a football player?”, “Yeah, he played in Led Zeppelin!”, “He sang in The Doors!”… You know those segments on Jay Leno where he goes around asking people various questions and you think they’re actors? They’re not… PEOPLE REALLY ARE THAT DUMB.
- Songs I Recommend By Jimi Hendrix: Voodoo Child (Slight Return), Little Wing, Bold As Love, Are You Experienced?, Stone Free, Purple Haze, Hey Joe, Fire, The Wind Cries Mary, All Along The Watchtower, Angel, The Star-Spangled Banner (best performance of our National Anthem EVER!)
- Best Jimi Hendrix Album: Are You Experienced? (Not necessarily stoned…)
Billy Idol
- Yes, I am not ashamed to admit that I like Billy Idol. He is a talented musician, albeit a little over the hill, but he is still great. Generation X is a great punk band too, so check them out as well. The 80’s live in my Mind!
- Songs I Recommend By Billy Idol: Dancing With Myself, Rock The Cradle, White Wedding, Eyes Without A Face, Rebel Yell, Blue Highway, and he does a great version of Simple Mind’s Don’t You Forget About Me… cuz you know, everyone thought he was the one singing it anyway!
- Best Billy Idol Album: Rebel Yell
Led Zeppelin
- These guys are great. I could sit in the dark and listen to Zep and be totally happy for the rest of my days… well, not really, but they are pretty good! Every record they made is a work of art… it’s too hard to decide which one is the best because they are all so great! And I don’t believe that Shark Story for one second… but the one about Jimmy Page selling his soul… possibly. Robert Plant’s Trouser Snake… I’ll leave that one alone for now.rs
- Songs I Recommend By Led Zeppelin: Rock and Roll, Communication Breakdown, Stairway To Heaven, Hat’s Off (To Roy Harper), Over The Hills And Far, Far Away, When The Levee Breaks, Cashmir, Lemon Song, Heartbreaker, Living Loving Maid, Dazed And Confused, Whole Lotta Love, and many, many more…
- Best Led Zeppelin Album: If I could pick just ONE… Physical Graffiti
Local H
- Not many people have heard of these guys. Scott and Joe, from Chicago. Just two guys making great tunes to bang your head to. Their style is reminiscent of Nirvana, Violent Femmes, and possibly Bob Dylan… but better! Check them out.
- Songs I Recommend By Local H: All The Kids Are Right, Bound For The Floor, Eddie Vedder, No Problem, 500,000 Scovilles, Back In The Day, Hit The Skids, All Right (Oh Yeah), Lovey Dovey
- Best Local H Album: Pack Up The Cats… the limited edition has an extra disc with a cover of ACDC’s “Long Way To The Top”, and some hilarious answering machine messages
The Misfits
- NOT the Newfits… I think this band is awesome… Granted it took me a year to warm up to them. Their songs are catchy; never mind the fact that they all have something to do with zombies and other various ghouly things! Not to mention Marilyn Monroe, Vampira, Vincent Price, and John F. Kennedy… Glenn Danzig did this band justice… not whoever is singing in the band now…
- Songs I Recommend By The Misfits: 20 Eyes, She, I Turned Into A Martian, Teenagers From Mars, Some Kinda Hate, Earth A.D., Brianeaters, All Hell Breaks Loose, We Bite, Queen Wasp, Nike A-Go-Go, Devil’s Whorehouse, Mommy, Can I Go Out And Kill Tonight?, Horror Business, Where Eagles Dare, Vampira, Attitude… and many others!!!
- Best Misfits Album: Walk Among Us (some of the catchiest punk I’ve ever heard!)
Nine Inch Nails
- Trent Reznor’s clever little name for himself! He is indeed a genius… anyone that can take utter noise and chaos and make it into music is definitely “A” material in my book. His videos leave nothing to the imagination (example: Closer, Happiness In Slavery {ICKY}, and Sin {piercings = BAD!}), but they are still art in themselves. Still waiting for that new album, Trent!!!
- Songs I Recommend By Nine Inch Nails: Gave Up, Wish, March Of The Pigs, Piggy, Hurt, The Way Out Is Through, Burn, The Perfect Drug, Into The Void, Starfuckers, Inc., We’re In This Together Now, Please, The Day The World Went Away, Where Is Everybody?, The Big Come Down
- Best Nine Inch Nails Album: bar-none, The Fragile
Nirvana
- Nirvana is the epitome of grunge, which is a bastardized version of punk. Kurt was awesome, Krist scares me, and Dave looks like he’s gay now. Back in the day, these guys were kings. And I’m getting a wee bit tired of this whole “Kurt Cobain Committed Suicide” thing. NO, HE DID NOT. Courtney did it. Watch the documentary “Kurt and Courtney” and see for yourself. Kurt was murdered. End of Story.
- Songs I Recommend By Nirvana: Sliver, Lounge Act, In Bloom, Smells Like Teen Spirit, Territorial Pissings, Rape Me, Heart-Shaped Box
- Best Nirvana Album: Nevermind… pick up a copy and hear the magic for yourself
Orgy
- Did they drop off the face of the earth? Where are these guys? Oh well, at any rate, I think they are very good. I only have their first album, but I like it enough to recommend it to you! Jay sounds like he’s British, but he’s not. FOOLED YA!
- Songs I Recommend By Orgy: Blue Monday, Dissention, Fiction (Dreams In Digital), Fetisha, Social Enemies, Dizzy, Stitches, All The Same, Revival
- Best Orgy Album: Candyass
A Perfect Circle
- i haven't heard from these guys in a while. I heard that they were going to release another album, but then again I don't pay much attention to the news. Do me a favor: please don't mistake these guys for Tool... They are nothing, and I mean NOTHING like Tool... But they are great summertime listening.
- Songs I Recommend By A Perfect Circle: Magdelena, Judith, Thinking Of You, Three Libras
- Best Perfect Circle Album: Well... obviously it's Mer De Noms... I think.
The Pixies
- I first thought that the Pixies were a little weird... I mean, just listen to Frank Black and you'll see what I mean. I borrowed the CD from my boyfriend and I got into them... Who couldn't, with such catchy lyrics like "I was talking to Preachy-Preach about kissy-kiss... he bought me a soda and tried to molest me in the parking lot"?
- Songs I Recommend By The Pixies: Vamos, Broken Face, Gigantic, Bone Machine, Debaser, No. 13 Baby, This Monkey's Gone To Heaven, Hey, Where Is My Mind?, River Euphrates (B-side), Something Against You, Oh My Golly!, Tony's Theme
- Best Pixies Album: Surfer Rosa, of course.
Powerman 5000
- Rob Zombie's incredibly hot younger brother Spider formed a band. They're pretty good; the only CD I have by them is Tonight the Stars Revolt, because for some reason that's beyond me, they were like, rap-rock or something before that album.
- Songs I Recommend By Powerman 5000: When Worlds Collide, Nobody's Real, Supernova Goes Pop, Operate Annihilate, Blast Off To Nowhere (complete with cameo by more-famous older brother Rob)
- Best Powerman 5000 Album: Tonight The Stars Revolt!---for various reasons
The Ramones
- I haven’t heard too much by the Ramones, but they give me that feeling that I get from Weezer: HAPPY HAPPY MUSIC.
- R.I.P. JOEY AND DEE DEE RAMONE!!!
- Songs I Recommend By The Ramones: Blitzkrieg Bop, Judy Is A Punk, I Wanna Be Sedated, Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue, Today Your Love Tomorrow The World, Sheena Is A Punk Rocker, Teenage Lobotomy
The Sex Pistols
- GOD SAVE THE QUEEN! Not really… I think she’s doing pretty well myself. Sex Pistols are a great punk band, even though they did only make one album, and Sid Vicious died (!), but I still like them anyway. They may not be my favorite, but they are still pretty good.
- Songs I Recommend By The Sex Pistols: Anarchy In The UK, God Save the Queen, Problems, EMI, Holidays In The Sun, No Feelings
- Best Sex Pistols Album: Well… obviously, it’s Nevermind The Bollocks—Here’s The Sex Pistols
Soundgarden
- Chris, Kim, Matt, and Ben… WE MISS YOU! You were one of the best things to come from Seattle, and you broke up and now I’m sad. But long live your music… Cliché as it may sound; Chris Cornell’s vocals WILL indeed peel the paint off of walls… KUDOS to you Chris!
- Songs I Recommend By Soundgarden: Outshined, No Attention, Blow Up The Outside World, Fell On Black Days, Mailman, Burden In My Hand, Pretty Noose, Rhinosaur, Rusty Cage, Fourth Of July, Limo Wreck
- Best Soundgarden Album: As hard as it is to pick my favorite, I would have to say Down On The Upside, their last and greatest masterpiece!
Stone Temple Pilots
- GOD… what can’t I say about these guys? I absolutely love them. They have so, so much talent, and I totally respect them for sticking it out through all of Scott’s—ahem—problems. They are always experimenting with new things, and I must say KUDOS to STP for being one of my Top Ten Fave Bands Of All Time!
- Songs I Recommend By STP: Plush, Sex-Type Thing, Hollywood Bitch, Lady Picture Show, Days Of The Week, Sour Girl, Heaven and Hot Rods, Crackerman, Big Bang Baby, Transmissions From A Lonely Room, Seven Caged Tigers, Meatplow, Unglued, Lounge Fly, Big Empty
- Best STP Album: Tie Between Shangri-La-Dee-Da and Core, but honorable mentions go to No. 4, Purple and Tiny Music for being just as good!
TooL
- I think that this band is brilliant and emotional; their lyrics (as hard as they are to understand) are catchy, and their rhythm is always a plus. They could be depressing to some people, but I find Maynard’s voice to be inspirational and beautiful. SEE ALSO: A Perfect Circle.
- Songs I Recommend By Tool: Stinkfist, Prison Sex, Disgustipated, Part Of Me, Eulogy, Hooker With A Penis, 46 and Two, Die Eier Von Satan (which is coincidentally a recipe for cookies!!!), Ticks and Leeches, The Swamp Song, Intolerance, Sober, Bottom (great cameo by Henry Rollins!!!)
- Best Tool Album: Aenima
Weezer
- The reason I like this band so much is because they make me feel HAPPY! I could be in the pissiest of moods and they always cheer me up. I miss their old bass player though. That new guy is a little to weird for me. He looks like Ralphie from “A Christmas Story” all grown up.
- Songs I Recommend By Weezer: Buddy Holly, Say It Ain’t So, Island In The Sun, No One Else, Tired Of Sex, Why Bother?, The Good Life, Suzanne, The World Has Turned And Left Me Here, Photograph
- Best Album: Pinkerton
White Zombie
- This band has kicked more ass than I have ever seen! Anyone who says they don’t like White Zombie is obviously a dumb ass, because this is the most talented (and missed!) of all metal bands this nation has ever had the privilege to spawn. Do us all a favor: drop whatever your doing right now (yes, close the PORNO sites) and download some White Zombie songs. I guarantee you won’t regret it!
- Songs I Recommend By White Zombie: Thunderkiss ’65, El Phantasmo and The Chicken-Run Blast-O-Rama, Cosmic Monsters, Inc., I Am Legend, More Human Than Human, Welcome To Planet Motherfucker/Psychoholic Slag, Grindhouse A-Go-Go, Starface, Warp Asylum, Thrust!, I, Zombie… and the list goes on!
- Best White Zombie Album: I can’t decide! Get them all

His band does some pretty obscure stuff (and I do mean OBSCURE) but I’ll say this: it’s sure as hell better than Limp Bizkit. They only have one CD (I think) and it’s called Duke Lion Fights The Terror!!!
